HomeMy WebLinkAbout12/04/2017 - Regular Minutes - Historic Preservation Committee MINUTES Historic Preservation Committee Monday, December 04, 2017 – 4:00 pm Municipal Court 300 Krenek Tap Road College Station, Texas 77842. The City Council may or may not attend the Historic Preservation Committee Regular Meeting. Present: Committee: Louis Hodges (chair) Marilyn Randall Gerald Burgner Sherry Frisk Ben Zimmer Andy Smith Not Present: Chantal Vessali Anat Geva Katherine Edwards City Staff: David Schmitz Andrea Lauer Brooke Lisenbardt Linda Harvell (City Council Liaison) 1. Called to order and announced a Quorum at 4 p.m. 2. Anat Geva, Chantal Vessali and Katherine Edwards requested absences and they were approved. 3. The Historic Preservation Committee voted unanimously to approve the November minutes. 4. Suzanne Druleskey, Executive Director – Partnership & Outreach Effectiveness at Texas A&M University was present as a visitor and Marci Rodgers was also there to introduce Katy Peterson as the new Senior Services Coordinator since Marci is retiring in January. 5. The Historic Preservation Committee discussed possible projects for 2018. Lou Hodges will do his annual update to Council at the January 25, 2018 meeting. They will continue with the Exploring History Luncheons and talked about possibly doing something for the upcoming 80th Anniversary for the City of College Station. They also explored the idea of researching influential members of College Station that are buried in the City of College Station cemeteries. 6. The Historic Home Tour brochure is ready and available for distribution at Central Park. Blanche Brick is looking for new authors for the new addition to the College Station History Book. The Historic Preservation Committee voted to unanimously approve the Historical Marker for 601 Montclair Avenue. The marker will be awarded at the January Council Meeting. Brooke has interviewed Marci Rodgers and Stephanie Simpson, both are retiring from the City of College Station after many years of employment. She is also working on interviewing former mayors and council members as a future project. Ben Zimmer and Marilyn Randal are working on speakers for Exploring History Lunch Lecture they have speakers scheduled through July 2018. Brooke stated that she is still working on cleaning up and organizing Project Hold. She is making it where things are lab eled and more user fr iendly. She is also searching for an unpaid intern. 7. David Schmitz stated that the Parks and Recreation Department is working on the fee schedule and brought up the possibility of increasing the cost of the Exploring History Lunch Lecture. 8. Rosie the Riveter statue will be dedicated at Veteran’s Park on December 07, 2017 at Veteran’s Park. 9. The January meeting will be moved to January 08, 2018 due to the first Monday being a holiday. 10. Lou Hodges brought items to pass around. 11. Meeting was adjourned at 5:25 p.m.
