HomeMy WebLinkAbout08/06/2018 - Regular Minutes - Historic Preservation Committee MINUTES Historic Preservation Committee Monday, August 06, 2018 – 4:00 pm Municipal Court 300 Krenek Tap Road College Station, Texas 77842 The City Council may or may not attend the Historic Preservation Committee Regular Meeting. Present: Louis Hodges Sherry Frisk Marilyn Randall Shirley Dupriest Benjamin Zimmer Gerald Burgner William Wright Willie Blackmon Chantal Vessali 1. Called to order and announced a Quorum at 4 p.m. 2. No absence requests were received. 3. The Historic Preservation Committee voted unanimously to approve the July minutes. 4. Towanna Ford and Dr. Carolyn Walden were present as visitors. 5. Tim Gregg has been contracted by the City of College Station to update the College Station History Book. He is working with the PR department and the time frame is approximately 3 months. Gerald Burgner and Lou Hodges will try to get students to volunteer at the College Station 80th Anniversary Celebration. The next 80th Anniversary Committee meeting will be September 11. Sherry Frisk and Shirley Dupriest are continuing their research on the cemetery project and have 192 names on the research list so far . Sherry Frisk would like input from this committee regarding the criteria to make the final list. Lou Hodges made a motion to approve the Historic Marker application for 1106 Carolina St. and Willie Blackmon seconded the motion. The vote was called. All were in favor and the motion passed unanimously. Gerald Burgner will work on his council presentation and Andrea Lauer will coordinate with the owners to get them on the September C ouncil agenda. Tiffany Gonzalez reported that she has three transcriptions left and then will start working on another project. She is now the Historical Records Archivist. Ben Zimmer and Marilyn Randal have scheduled speakers for Exploring History Lunch lecture through 2018. The November meeting is moved to the second week due to Thanksgiving and no lecture for December. Ben is working on the schedule for 2019. 6. Kelly Kelbly reported that Lacey Lively has created a logo for the College Station 80th Anniversary Celebration. 7. Booneville days is October 13 and the following weekend is the 80th Anniversary Celebration. 8. The September meeting has been moved to September 10th due to Labor Day. 9. Lou Hodges brought historic items for the committee to look at. 10. Meeting was adjourned at 5:15 p.m.
