College Station Senior Advisory Committee
Regular Meeting
September 25, 2017

MINUTES
Members Present: Jean Adams, Carol Blaschke, Bryana Childers, Jerry Crockett, Russell Kohel,
Jeanne Machrowicz, June Morris, Arlene Petroski, Barbara Pratt, Mickey Stokes, Darla
VanFickell, Christine Williams and Janet Wood
Members Absent: Norma Teetes and Joanna Yeager
I. Call to order: The meeting was called to order at 10:00 a.m. by Jerry Crockett,
Chairman
II. Hear Visitors: The Chairman welcomed visitors Sherry Erwin, Gary Erwin and
Cecilia Yip. Ms. Yip updated the Committee on the completion of the striping on the
Bee Creek Park tennis courts for Pickelball. She encouraged the committee to spread
the word on the hours and sites available for indoor Pickelball. She was interested in
the status of the senior center for College Station.
III. Approval of minutes from July 31, 2017 meeting: NOTE-The August 28th meeting
was cancelled due to Hurricane Harvey. Barbara Pratt made the motion to approve
the July 31, 2017 minutes. Mickey Stokes seconded the motion. The motion passed
unanimously.
IV. Report from Program Sub-Committee: (report attached) June Morris reported for the
Program Sub-committee. Ms. Morris highlighted new programs for the fall such as:
• Lunch-N-Learn series with Extension Service on Gardening
• Tour of Kyle Field and lunch
• Presentation with Water Resource Coordinator for the City of College Station
The committee made recommendations for speakers for the Strictly Business series
and movies to show monthly.
V. Discussion and possible action on updating Senior Advisory Committee By-Laws:
The committee received a copy of the current By-Laws. Each member was asked to
review the by-laws on their own and propose any changes at the next meeting on
October 30, 2017.
VI. Presentation, possible action and discussion on Senior Services Coordinator Report
regarding current and upcoming programs and events (report attached)

• Oct. 5: Flu Shot Clinic / 12 -2 p.m. @ Southwood Community Center
• Oct.10: AARP Smart Driver Course / 9:30 a.m.- 2:30 p.m. @ Carter Creek
Training Room
• Oct. 11: Flu Shot Clinic / 12 -2 p.m. @ Lincoln Recreation Center
• Oct. 14: Walk to End Alzheimer’s / 8-10:30 a.m. @ Wolf Pen Creek
• Oct. 14: Lick Creek Nature Center Grand Opening/ 8-11 a.m.
• Oct. 14: Free Shred Day at College Station City Hall/ 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.
• Oct. 19: Senior Fall Fest /5-7 p.m. @ Veteran’s Park
• Oct. 21: Household Hazardous Waste & Computer Collection Event @
University Services Bldg / 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
• Oct. 26: Senior Dance / 7-9 p.m. @ Southwood Community Center
• Nov.30: Deadline for Senior Advisory Committee Applications
VII. Presentation, discussion and possible action on future agenda items: A Committee
member may inquire about a subject for which notice has not been given. A
statement of specific factual information or the recitation of existing policy may be
given. Any deliberation shall be limited to a proposal to place the subject on an
agenda for a subsequent meeting.
