Presentation, possible action, and discussion regarding potential ordinance amendments related to open
storage; vegetation; right of way maintenance; parking, standing, or storing of recreational vehicles, trailers, or
truck; and shopping carts for consistent code enforcement.
Relationship to Strategic Goals:
·Good Governance
·Core Services and Infrastructure
·Neighborhood Integrity
Recommendation(s): Staff recommends a presentation of potential ordinance amendments and request
feedback and direction.
Summary: The Code Enforcement staff reviewed the Code of Ordinances to determine where there are
inconsistencies in language between various ordinances and/or where language should be added to clarify the
intent of the ordinance. These revisions and clarification will assist Code Enforcement Officers in their daily
efforts to educate and enforce.
Additionally, there is not efficient way to address shopping carts abandoned throughout the City. Code
Enforcement met with local store managers to determine language to be included in a new ordinance that will
allow for the development of a process to fairly address abandoned shopping carts.
Staff will present each item, provide information on complaints and violations, current enforcement efforts, and
request direction from Council. Changes will be included on a future Council agenda for adoption.
The following indicates sections of the Code of Ordinances that will be discussed:
1) Sec. 26-6: Open Storage
2) Sec. 30-24: Trees, Shrubs, and Vegetation
3) Sec. 34-65: Streets, Sidewalks, Right-of-Way and Driveway Constructions and Repair
4) Sec. 38-43: Parking, Standing, or Storing Recreational Vehicles, Trailers, or Trucks in
