Regular Meeting
January 30, 2017

Members Present: Jean Adams, Bryana Childers, Jerry Crockett, Russell Kohel, Jeanne
Machrowicz, June Morris, Arlene Petroski, Barbara Pratt, Norma Teetes, Darla VanFickell,
Christine Williams, Janet Wood and Joanna Yeager.
Members Absent: Carol Blaschke and Mickey Stokes
Visitors: Frank Duchmasclo
Staff Present: Kelly Kelbly and Marci Rodgers
I. Call to order: The meeting was called to order at 10:00 a.m. by Jerry Crockett,
Chairman
II. Hear Visitors : Frank Duchmasclo encouraged the committee to stay optimistic and
positive about a future senior and community center.
III. Oath of Office and Statement for newly appointed members of the Senior Advisory
Committee. June Morris and Barbara Pratt were sworn in by Andrea Lauer as new/
returning members to the Senior Advisory Committee.
IV. Approval of minutes from meeting held on November 28, 2016: Janet Wood made a
motion t o approve the minutes. Russell Kohel seconded the motion. The motion
passed unanimously.
V. Report from Program Sub-Committee – Joanna Yeager: Ms. Yeager reported that
Russell Kohel, Arlene Potroski, Rhonda Howland, June Morris, Joanna Yeager and
Marci Rodgers met on December 13, 2016 to discuss the January – April 2017
monthly calendars. The sub -committee made recommendations for monthly movies
and suggestions for programs. Ms. Yeager reported that the monthly presentations on
local businesses have been interesting and well attended. The sub -committee also
discussed ways the Senior Advisory Committee could help promote the Brazos
Valley Senior Games.

VI. Update on proposed Senior and Community Center – Chairman, Jerry Crockett: Mr.
Crockett reported that he and Frank Duchmasclo met recently with City Manager ,
Kelly Templin. The purpose was to inquire about the status of the senior and
community center project. Jerry Crockett reported that the city manager remains
positive and supportive toward the project and utilizing the Arts Center location once
the Arts Council moves to a new location. Jerry Crockett encouraged the committee
to be patient and to take the opportunity to visit with council members about their
concerns.
VII. Discussion and possible actio n on a ppointment of sub -committee for 2017 Senior
Advisory Committee Goals: Members were asked to volunteer for the 2017 goals
sub -committee. Mickey Stokes was appointed chair. Barbara Pratt, Jeanne
Machrowicz, Janet Wood and Christine Williams will se rve on the sub -committee.
The committee will meet and present goals for consideration at the next regular
meeting of the Senior Advisory Committee.
VIII. Presentation, possible action and discussion on Senior Services Coordinator Report
regarding current and upcoming programs and events : (Report attached) Marci
Rodgers reported the last four month’s attendance figures. The January calendar and
upcoming February calendar were discussed. Members were encouraged to take
copies of the Spring Guide and February Ca lendar and distribute in the community.
The Valentine’s Day Tea and Fashion Show will be held on February 14th. A dance
will be held that evening from 7 -9 p.m. at Southwood Community Center. Marci
Rodgers asked if any members were interested in volunteering with the Brazos Valley
Senior Games swimming, track & field or pickleball events. The committee was
invited to the Brazos Valley Senior Games reception on Saturday, February 25, 2017
at the Museum of the American G.I.
IX. Presentation, discussion and possible action on future agenda items: A Committee
member may inquire about a subject for which notice has not been given. A
statement of specific factual information or the recitation of existing policy may be
given. Any deliberation shall be limited to a proposal to place the subject on an
agenda for a subsequent meeting.
