HomeMy WebLinkAbout04/25/2016 - Regular Minutes - Senior Advisory Committee College Station Senior Advisory Committee Regular Meeting April 25, 2016 CARTER CREEK TRAINING ROOM 2200 NORTH FOREST PARKWAY 10:00 a.m. Minutes Members Present: Jean Adams, Carol Blaschke, Margaret Carmichael, Bryana Childers, Russell Kohel, Jeanne Mackrowicz, June Morris, Arlene Petroski, Mickey Stokes, Darla VanFickell, Christine Williams, Janet Wood and Joanna Yeager Members Absent: Jerry Crockett and Norma Teetes Staff Present: Marci Rodgers I. Call to order: The meeting was called to order at 10:02 a.m. by Margaret Carmichael, Vice -Chair II. Hear Visitors : No visitors III. Approval of minutes from March 28, 2016 meeting : Arlene Petroski made a motion to approve the minutes. Darla VanFickell seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. IV. Presentation on Social Media with Lacey Lively: Ms. Lively demonstrated how the city uses Twitter and Facebook to reach the public. She explained how the two programs are the fastest way to get the word out on news items as well as programs offered by the city. The local media follows twitter and will pick up items of interest and begin to help spread the information. She explained how one can create their own account free. The committee appreciated her explanation of how the city utilizes and manages the accounts. V. Goal sub -committee report: (report attached) a report was also presented from the Bob Meyer Memorial Committee. Marci Rodgers reported that the Robert Meyer Restricted Gift Fund had a current balance of $566,346.27 and this included all interest earned to date. Staff is also working on a plaque to be hung at Southwood Community Center recognizing Bob Meyer for his generous contribution to the City of College Station for Senior Programs. VI. Presentation, discussion and possible action on future agenda items: A Committee memb er may inquire about a subject for which notice has not been given. A statement of specific factual information or the recitation of existing policy may be given. Any deliberation shall be limited to a proposal to place the subject on an agenda for a subsequent meeting. • Discuss city webpage for senior programs • Next meeting May 23, 2016 VIII.
