Regular Meeting
March 28, 2016

Members Present: Jean Adams, Margaret Carmichael, Bryana Childers, Jerry Crockett, Russell
Kohel, Jeanne Machrowicz, June Morris, Arlene Petroski, Darla VanFickell, Christine Williams,
Janet Wood and Joanna Yeager
Members Absent: Carol Blaschke, Mickey Stokes and Norma Teetes
Staff Present: Kelly Kelbly, Mike Neu, Lacey Lively and Marci Rodgers
Visitors: Pearl Robertson
I. Call to order: T he meeting was called to order at 10:01 a.m. by Jerry Crockett,
Chairman.
II. Hear Visitors : No visitors spoke
III. Approval of minutes from February 29, 2016 meeting: Jean Adams made the motion
to approve the minutes. Christine Williams seconded the motion. T he motion passed
unanimously.
IV. Presentation on the City of College Station Communication and Marketing to seniors
with Mike Neu and Lacey Lively. Lacey Lively and Mike Neu were invited to
explain how the City of College Station markets senior programs. Lacey Lively
explained that she works closely with Kelli Nesbitt, Marketing Coordinator for the
Parks Department, to promote events and programs. The City of College Station
submits information to multiple media sources such as radio, TV, newspaper and
social media. The communications department creates the senior monthly calendar ,
flyers and posters for special events along with the activity guide. Lacey explained
that information from the activity guide, for example, is submitted to all the
community web calendars. The media will pull information from the calendar for
their news stories and more information is provided if needed. The City of College
Station utilizes social media such as Twitter, Facebook and Blogs. Lacey explained
e-notify found on the c ity website. This allows viewers to check the events they want
to receive news from. Lacey Lively agreed to do a presentation on how to use the
social media at our next meeting. Committee members made suggestions to the
monthly calendar such as drawing attention to the website and making special events

for that month stand out. The program sub -committee will look at what events they
would like to promote in a particular month.
V. Program sub -committee report: (report attached) Joanna Yeager reported for the
committee. The sub-committee met on March 24, 2016 to discuss April – July
calendars. The sub-committee would like to begin a new program that would invite
businesses in the community to present programs on the products and services they
offer such a s Brown’s Shoe Fit explaining how a shoe should fit, LynnTech, a science
and research company and Crime Stoppers.
VI. Update and possible action on 2016 Senior Advisory Committee Goals: The approved
2017 Goals were distributed and reviewed. An update was given by Kelly Kelbly on
the Architectural firm working on the redesign of the Arts Council building for a
senior center. The senior advisory committee will have an opportunity to meet with
the architect for input.
VII. Presentation, possible action and discussion on Senior Services Coordinator Report
regarding current and upcoming programs and events (report attached) Marci Rodgers
reported on last month attendance figures and upcoming events.

• Senior Dance / April 21
• Parks Summer Open House / April 30
VIII. Presentation, discussion and possible action on future agenda items: A Committee
member may inquire about a subject for which notice has not been given. A
statement of specific factual information or the recitation of existing policy may be
given. Any deliberation shall be limited to a proposal to place the subject on an
agenda for a subsequent meeting.
