HomeMy WebLinkAbout03/30/2015 - Regular Minutes - Senior Advisory CommitteeCollege Station Senior Advisory Committee Regular Meeting Monday, March 30, 2015 10:00am Arts Council of the Brazos Valley 2275 Dartmouth Street Minutes Members Present: Margaret Carmichael, Jerry Crockett, Frank Duchmasclo, Ann Hays, Russell Kohel, Susan McGrail, Jerry Markowich, June Morris, Pearl Robertson, Mickey Stokes and Joanna Yeager Members Absent: Pat VanderBoom I. Call to order The meeting was called to order 10:01 a.m. by Frank Duchmasclo, Chairman. II. Welcome New Members June Morris and Mickey Stokes were welcomed as new members to the Senior Advisory Committee. III. Hear Visitors Gary Ives was present as a visitor IV. Approval of minutes from regular meeting on February 23, 2015 Jerry Crockett made a motion to approve the minutes. Pearl Robertson seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. V. Update and discussion on status of Robert Meyer Bequest and 2015 Bond by David Schmitz, Director, Parks and Recreation Department David Schmitz wa s unable to attend. Frank Duchmasclo reported to the committee that he had met with David Schmitz. Their discussion included Mr. Duchmasclo communicating that the ultimate goal of the seniors is to have a senior center. They also discussed the possibility of a future community center on the 2015 bond election with an area designated as a senior center. Frank Duchmasclo expressed appreciation for David Schmitz always making himself available to meet with. The committee discussed the status of the Robert Meyer Bequest and suggested that the Memorial Sub-Committee meet and prioritize suggested use of funds. VI. Discussion and possible action concerning 2015 Senior Advisory Committee Goals (Goals attached) Jerry Markowich made the motion to approve the 2015 Senior Advisory Committee Goals. Susan McGrail seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. VII. Presentation, possible action and discussion on Senior Services Coordinator Report regarding current and upcoming programs and events (Report Attached) Marci Rodgers reported that February offered many programs and special events for seniors with an emphasis on Valentine’s Day and Heart Health Week. Art classes and exercise classes continue to be popular. Coming in April are two Senior World Passport Programs. New classes in genealogy, photography and bridge are being offered. Southwood Community Center will be closed April 15 – 18 for new carpet and flooring to be installed. VIII. Presentation, discussion and possible action on future agenda items: A C ommitte e member may inquire about a subject for which notice has not been given. A statement of specific factual information or the recitation of existing policy may be given. Any deliberation shall be limited to a proposal to place the subject on an age nda for a subsequent meeting. • The committee asked that David Schmitz be asked to attend the next meeting • Report from Robert Meyer Memorial Committee IX.
