Memorandum to: Chairman, Planning and Zoning Commission and City Manager

Subject: Southern Standard Building Code
1. Recently, Codie Wells, Chairman, Industrial Committee, spent a considerable
amount of time and effort at my request in reviewing the Southern Building Code
with reference to its revision and adaptability to our city.
2. Codie was in touch with a number of cities which have used the Code and
learned of their experiences and of amendments to up-date it in keeping with
Texas conditions.
3. At the conclusion of his study he turned over to me the copy of the Code
• and his recommendation. Such are at the City Hall.
4. I have reviewed to the best of my knowledge, making a few minor amendments
which I discussed with Codie.
5. I would appreciate it, Ed, if you and also Dulaney, of the city's Public
Works Department, would independently review this material, checking with
Codie on comments you may have.
6. I am anxious to work up a recommendation to the city council on the
adoption of the Code and the amendments at the June 26 regular council meeting.
7. Of course, I would like to have you review earlier, say by June 15, so that
councilmen could also review at their convenience.
