HomeMy WebLinkAbout05/19/1967 - Minutes - Planning & Zoning Commission THE CITY OF COLLEGE STATION • College Station, Texas May 19, 1967 Memorandum to: Edward E. Burns Chairman, Planning and Zoning Commission From: The Mayor Subject: Plat and Zoning, Geer Construction Company 1 . Ed, as you and other committee members probably know, the forementioned company was "burned" on plans to put an 41 .8 mil- lion apartment complex on the airport highway. 2. The choice has been shifted to an area south of State Highway #30 with a very good potential for a 4;4 million investment. Sub- ject 'to utilities and zoning they are about ready to invest 61 .8 million on the apartment complex. However, in view of treatment • they received, and money lost, they are a little "gun-shy" until utilities and zoning matters are cleared. 3. This resulted in a letter to the Council for an official reply. The Council cleared up the utility matter and advised them to get the plat to your group with recommendations on re- zoning. 4. I am hopeful that, upon receipt of the plat, your group could expedite this matter as best you could. 5. Of interest to me as mayor is the $4 million tax base that would put 1'60,000 a year into the city coffers, plus other income from sale of utilities. Growing as we are, and in recognition of our needs, this investment in our community would be a shot in the arm, so to speak. 6. Your cooperation as a group will be appreciated. D. A.
