Call to Order The 75th Anniversary Committee was called to order by Chair Linda Harvell at 8:31 a.m. on April 11, 2013 in the College Station City Hall, 1101 Texas Avenue, College Station, TX 77840. 2. Hear Visitors There were no visitors. 3. Consider Approval of Previous Minutes MOTION: The Committee voted to approve the minutes. Minutes were approved. 4. Bush Library Exhibit Update Committee discussed the Bush Library exhibit. Major subjects included types of interactive exhibit content, suggestions for artifacts to use for display, and promotion. Committee suggestions for interactive content included: Creating an area with rocking chairs that participant could use to reminisce and tell stories. A docent training program, that committee members could create information for. Possibly dedicating one of the Library’s lecture topics to 75th related material, contingent on funds. Memory wall Multimedia exhibit of oral history content Suggested artifacts included: Airport searchlight 1980s robot originally used by CSPD for outreach Sports memorabilia such as olympic medals and shot put, team charm bracelets, signed football, etc. Golden axe from fire station 6 Wedgewood plates Furnishings for period room re-creation Militaria Maquettes of veterans’ park statues Corps Uniforms and artifacts Lincoln Center trophy case Domino tables carved by students Longhorn (TAMU) yearbooks Vintage exterior business signs including Culpepper Realty sign Peterson family homestead artifacts Vintage radios and broadcasting equipment Vintage typewriters and cameras Religious items such as St. Mary’s cross, pew currently in traditions dorm, and communion table from Church of Christ Original city documents such as charters, tax documents, and petition for, and articles of, incorporation Cheerleading uniform Concrete street signs and fireplug Image of campus house being moved Railroad memorabilia and scale models Adaptation of existing media, such as History Channel Bonfire show, We’ve Never Been Licked, Golden Memories of College Station, When Aggies go to War, etc. Historic Architecture, such as historic homes and buildings Promotion: Chair Harvell reported that the 75th Facebook page is now live. She requested volunteer assistance for site administration. Sherry Frisk indicated her brother may help. Committee proposed to approach the Eagle for a special publication. 5. Sponsorship Workshop (This topic will be the primary focus of this month’s meeting) Chair Harvell reported that City Bank of Texas is the first Corporate donor -- $500. She reported that she has sent out letters to potential sponsors, and encouraged members to solicit help and sponsorship. Members were encouraged to inform Jacob Morris when contacts were made, so the sponsor master list could be updated. Benefits to sponsors include: Major sponsors will receive prominent signage evocative of period southern pacific signs at the exhibit space and in materials. Other level sponsors will receive a commemorative poster, challenge coin and pin. Members who wanted pins to hand out were instructed to contact Mike Neu. Cash donations are tax deductible, and in-kind donations also are usually eligible for some type of deduction, minus the value gained by the donor 6. Report-Car Show B. B. Holland reported that he wants to send out invitations in August. He indicated that he is waiting for approved forms to use. 7. Homecoming Events, planning Gary Ives reported that he has volunteered to coordinate the Homecoming/reunion, and requested help from members, either through direct assistance, or referrals of volunteers. City staff reported that for the Nov 15, Friday night event held at Bachmann Park an estimate of number of attendees, and needed resources will be required. The event will collect a nominal food and beverage fee. Committee discussed adding a list of area attractions to promotional material for events, such as Richard Carter Park, that TAMU Garden Club will be beautifying, the new MSC building on campus. 8. Additional Planning and Reports related to 75th Activities No additional reports. 9. New Business 10. THE NEXT MEETING OF THE 75th ANNIVERSARY PLANNING COMMITTEE IS SCHEDULED FOR THURSDAY, May 9, 2013. 11.
