75th ANNIVERSARY PLANNING COMMITTEE
AGENDA
College Station City Hall – Admin Conference Room # 2
October 11, 2012 – 8:30 am
The mission of the 75th Anniversary Planning Committee is to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the City of College Station, home of Texas A&M University, by celebrating the past, honoring
the present and embracing the future.
Please send your regrets to Linda at fortli@aol.com if you cannot attend the meeting.
Please print the agenda and documents out and bring with you to the meeting.

ALI- Another came in 9:04- WTAW turned 90 years old.

3. Consider approval of September Minutes

4. Chair Report
Linda Harvell-
Struggling to get manpower. Suggest drop vets park day event.
Focus on Bush Library, maybe do reception at bush for one day.
Still do Cushing Library. Traveling trunk show.
Tom Taylor- maybe scale back.
Cooper- What about A&M Consolidated Schedule.
Sherry- focus on one special event- best use of efforts.
Cooper- until have specific things, will have trouble getting volunteers.
Linda- Margaret Godfrey is working w churches. Fundraising may be more successful if focused.
Neu- tracy Price has a small budget for a kickoff event. Exhibit expected to stay open through December. As in vets park, we need to do around football schedule.
Linda- Texas Reds will prob be oct 6 or 12 th weekends. Then 26th wil be an away game.
Taylor- issue that next years schedule will be pattern for upcoming years for SEC.
Cooper- tentatively start oct 19th, taylor maybe 26th because we know it will be open.
Taylor- declare October 26th the day- so we can be in place first.
All agreed- lets plan for 26th for kickoff bush event.
Need to discuss with Bush library.
Mike- live spots, website have started. Need to extend with Jay. Ali is ready as soon as possible.
5. Committee Reports:
P/R and Marketing – Mike Neu
Exhibits – Bush Library – Collection of potential exhibits/content
Neu report- put out a call for stories. Radio a small blip. Purchased an audio recorder. It is available. Still trying to find a place for 75th website. Using hold content for 75th stuff.
Linda- BB Holland and Sarah Hentz agreed to supply cars for event
Margaret Godfrey still working with churches.
Neu- Still getting specifics for exhibits.
Cooper- are we talking to arts council? Linda- talks to arts council, but not get much from them yet. Cooper- Pics of campus houses from conference center could be useful. Cooper can
email them, put them on a disk.
Linda- at prev Exp lunches has called out for material.
Relative of dean heaton. Linda- Kathleen Roberts (sp) wants to donate her stuff to the city. Told her we would look at them- she is living at waldenbrook estates. Her father’s papers.
Heas kidnapped by a person who did not have a degree.
Cooper- Cushing may be able to donate exhibit space.
Bill Cox is director of facilities at MSC.-Tom agreed to talk to him.
Linda- corp of cadets- MD not reg at meetings-
Cooper- Lisa(at corp center) has corp stuff.
Linda- ask Neu to ask for specific items, specific categories. Cooper will send neu website links.
Linda- White will do good with service clubs when gets back.
Linda- next meeting can be more like a workshop, like formulating a proposed budget. Getting sponsorships etc.
Neu- anyone who gives item needs to be listed as donor, recognized.Linda maybe on big banners.
Traveling trunk stuff.
Taylor- American Mile is a good timeline, good to use. Linda- Maybe Shannon overby can show about a timeline. Mash- Now that we have a date can print-
Neu wants a short delay in date so can confirm a few things.
BRAZOS HERITAGE SOCIETY has a trunk.
Linda- Cal Jones at Jane long does history.
Neu- Maybe oversize vehicles can be staged outside.
Linda- vintage radios. Jay socol knows who has them. Neu- wants to work with Ali to work on history of media section, ie, radio WTAW, etc.
ALI- Mike Wright(sp) may have KTAM stuff.
Need Sub-Committee Chairs for various activities:
Day of Event – Brainstorm ideas
Vintage Softball Game (Parks Department)
Exhibits – By Decade (at Veterans Park Day of Event)
Birthday Dinner
Homecoming/Reunion – Anne Boykin
Linda/Cooper-- can still do homecoming reunion, just not at vets park event.Cooper, could tie in Vets day at vfw etc. to city.Neu, had corp members dressed up in old uniforms. Maybe
Museum of American GI.
Tribute to local Veterans
Need American mile, vets park stuff on brochures. Neu says need to tie in every regular event to 75th.

Will be more of a workshop. Linda will have a skeleton, costs, etc. i.e. banners, etc.
Neu- example, reach out to specific people, then we will make a banner featuring them. IE one for northgate, one for culpepper family. Linda, restaurants.
Banner displays could be used for several purposes.
