Item No. 1 - Call to order.
Mayor White called the meeting to order at 6: 15 pm.
Item No. 2 - Update regarding enforcement of Cell Phone regulations in school zones
The City's Traffic Engineer Troy Rother addressed the group about the new legislation on prohibition of cell phones
in school zones. He stated that the Council's Transportation Committee reviewed the legislation and proposed i.
recommendation to City Council that the "No Cell Phone" signs should be installed with the participation of cost
from the school district. He noted that the bill was not a mandate but was viewed by staff and Council that it was
legislation that should be implemented for safety purposes. He presented three options.
School Board members also addressed the bill and implied the bill was mandatory.
Cost of installing the signs was approximately $10,400 for the fifty-five locations.
Each entity will address this matter at future meetings for a final decision.
Item No. 3 - Uvdate from CSlSD on new facilities and schools being planned or under construction
Clark Ealy, Deputy Superintendent for Administrative Services described projects completed and in progress funded
by the 2007 and 2009 Bond authorization.
Some of the major projects included the construction of Creekview Elementary School and College Hills
Elementary School.
He presented a conceptual design of a second High School to be located at the intersection of Barron Road and
Victoria. A projected opening date is August 2012.
Item No. 4 - Update from City of College Station staff regarding development review of CSlSD projects.
Bob Cowell, Director of Planning and Development Services discussed the City Codes related to school
infrastructure. He explained that structures are usually exempted from city codes. Issues sometimes arise with
parking at schools and staff will work closer with school to determine parking layout for high school.

Suggestion was made to potentially annex the property of new high school. This will be future item to discuss with
school staff.
Mayor commended both groups for partnership efforts.
Hearing no objections, Mayor White adjourned the meeting at 7:30 pm.
