HomeMy WebLinkAbout11/18/2003 - Regular Minutes - Bryan College Station Library System Advisory Board MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING • BRYAN+COLLEGE STATION PUBLIC LIBRARY SYSTEM ADVISORY BOARD November 18,2003 On the 18th day of November 2003,the Bryan+College Station Public Library Advisory Board of the cities of Bryan and College Station,Texas,met in a regular scheduled meeting at the Carnegie History Center, 111 S.Main,Bryan,Bryan,Texas,and the following members were present: 1.ATTENDANCE MEMBER Present/ #of Meetings #of Meetings %attended Absent held since attended since in last 6 appointment appointment months Mr.Larry Ringer,President P 35 34 100 Mrs.Jo Berg P 29 27 100 Effie Perry P 19 16 100 Charles Smith P 16 15 100 Shirley Watts A 16 12 66 Jeanne Mitchell A 12 9 66 Eric Miller A 11 9 66 James Bradford P 6 4 100 2.Also present were Mrs.Clara Mounce, Community Librarian,and Mrs.Laura Mills, Secretary. Visitors were Patricia Crawford,Wendi Lamphear,Nina Leverkuhn, and Charlie Shear. 3. Larry Ringer called the meeting to order at 5:15 p.m. 4. The minutes of the September 16,2003 meeting were approved as distributed. 5. The statistics for October and November 2003 were reviewed. Mrs. Mounce stated there is a slight • increase overall in circulation,however she noticed a slight decreasing trend for circulation in Bryan which may in part be due to a decrease in capital funds available for book purchases. 6. In old business,the meeting room reservation policy was discussed. Mrs. Mounce stated that no action should be taken at the meeting and more data should be collected on usage and requests declined due to unavailability. 7. In new business, Mrs. Effie Perry announced that she will not apply for reappointment to the Library Board. The board extended appreciation for her service and support of the library. 8. In the librarian's report, Mrs. Mounce stated the College Station Library will close for refurbishing after Christmas and will reopen on January 2. The library will host a grand opening of Sunday hours on January 4, 2004. The branch manager Kathleen Dill will start maternity leave the last week of November and LouVonne Johnson will supervise the staff until Mrs.Dill returns to work on January 4,2004. The Carnegie ' Lighting Center plaza is the site of this year's Downtown Bryan Christmas Tree. The Tree L ghtmg event will be at 5:30 p.m. on December 2nd. Mrs. Mounce reported that a charette was held at the Bryan Library on November 15 to develop project ideas for the Rotary Club Plaza to be built between the Bryan Library and the Children's Museum. 9. Agenda items for the January 20, 2004 meeting include the room reservation policy and one new library board appointment. 10.
