MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING
OF THE BRYAN LIBRARY BOARD
OCTOBER 11, 1978
110
The Bryan Library Board of Trustees met in regular session on October 11, 1978
in the Reference Room of the Library.
Present were Mrs. R. J. Holmgreen, President of the Board, Mr. Travis B. Bryan,
Jr. , Mrs. C. J. Allen, Mrs. Willie Pruitt, Mrs. Jesse Flores, and Mrs. Bookman Peters.
Absent was Mrs. R. H. Harrison, III.
Under regular business, the minutes of the September meeting were approved as
written. Mrs. Allen moved acceptance of the booklist and Mrs. Flores seconded it.
Under old business, the librarian discussed the Fine-Free Book Campaign, which
will be extended through October 20, 1978. The area McDonald's Restaurants are assist-
ing in this campaign by offering free french fries for books returned.
Under new business, the revised book inventory forms were examined. The Board
requested a listing of the magazines and newspapers to which the library subscribes.
In a discussion of these statistics, it was noted that the current number of
book volumes stands at 85,660.
Mrs. Peters suggested that the Library Board consider sponsoring a family evening
or party celebrating the library's 75th anniversary, where admission would be one book
or money to purchase one book. These ideas will be discussed in more detail.
Copies of the annual budget for 1978-79 were distributed.
The librarian discussed the style of the annual report, which may be revised to
present statistics and information in a clearer format.
Also under new business, the librarian discussed with the Library Board current
problems resulting from usage of the library by Blinn Junior College students.
Mrs. Pringle described her visit at Blinn College's campus in Brenham. Much discussion
followed this report, and as a result, Mr. Bryan will contact Mr. Atkinson, President
of Blinn College, about possible funding and support for Bryan Public Library.
411 The meeting adjourned at 6:20 p.m.
Mrs. R. J. Holmgreen, President Mrs. Linda Pringle, Librarian and
Secretary to the Board
