Present were Mr. Travis B. Bryan, Jr. , President of the Board, Mrs. R. J. Holmgreen, Mrs. Bookman Peters, Mrs. Jesse Flores, Mrs. Willie Pruitt and Mrs. C. J. Allen. Absent was Mrs. R. H. Harrison, III. Under regular business, the minutes of the March meeting were approved as written. Mrs. Peters moved acceptance of the booklist. Mrs. Pruitt seconded it. The revised statistical forms were examined and discussed by the Board members. The librarian reported on the TLA Legislative Happening which was held in the library on April 2, 1978. Our turnout of candidates and library supporters was small, ® and in the future better organization and publicity may achieve more positive results. The librarian briefly discussed the recent meeting with College Station City Council and hopefully increased support from College Station will be forthcoming. The TLA annual meeting was held in Ft. Worth April 5-8. Much emphasis at the conference was placed on legislative efforts and it was noted that Texas ranks 47th in state aid to libraries. A discussion followed on this topic and the librarian was directed to find the number of public libraries located in the state of Texas. Various awards were presented at this convention and these selections were noted. Personnel action resulted in the reclassification of Mrs. Francis Halbrook from Clerk to Library Assistant. And four librarians--Mrs. Munoz, Mrs. Craig, Miss Ezzell, and Mrs. Hightower, received pay increses, which will bring their salary up to step under our current pay system. Under new business, Mr. Bryan discussed a telephone call which he had received concerning the nomination of Mrs. Hazel Richardson for Librarian of the Year. Since the selection has been made for 1978, the Board did not believe they could take • any action. Mr. Bryan will contact Mrs. Richardson about this matter. The Board discussed the possibility of a security system to alleviate the problem of theft of library materials. Mrs. Peters made a motion that the librarian institute an organized program of contacting business concerns which provide theft pre-- vention materials for libraries. Mrs. Holmgreen seconded this and the motion carried. The Board expressed its thanks to Mr. Bryan for the lovely retirement party given for Mrs. Hazel Richardson. The meeting adjourned at 6:20 p.m. Mr. Travis Bryan, Jr. , Mrs. inda Pringle, Librarian President of the Board and Secretary to the Board • •,--_-,--__.
