Present were Mr. Travis B. Bryan, Jr. , President of the Board, Mrs. R. H. Harrison, III, Mrs. C. J. Allen, Mrs. Jesse Flores, and Mrs. Willie Pruitt. Absent were Mrs. Bookman Peters and Mrs. R. J. Holmgreen. Before convening, Mrs. Pringle presented Mrs. Clara Mounce, our new Assistant City Librarian, to the Board. Mrs. Mounce devoted some time in telling the Board of her education and experience. Under regular business, the minutes of the February meeting were approved as written. The statistics were examined. It was noted that circulation increased from 41,085 to 43,936 this year. • Mrs. Pruitt moved the acceptance of the booklist. Mrs. Allen seconded it. Under old business the annual report of the librarian was discussed. Mrs. Harrison recommended that the Friends of the Library Board report be more inclusinve to report all of the activities of the Board. Mrs. Harrison moved to approve the annual report. Mrs. Allen seconded it. The librarian presented copies of the library insurance policy to the Board. A brief period of discussion followed about the policy. Mr. Bryan directed the librarian to examine the policy in regard to the books on the bookmobile to determine if these books are covered by the policy, once they leave the library building. Under new business the reorganized statistical forms were distributed and discussed. Board members will bring comments and suggestions to the next meeting. Mrs. Harrison suggested that the library use the Friends of the Library video film to promote the library during National Library Week. The librarian will examine this • matter. National Library Week will be April 2 through 8. The Houston film program was discussed, and their holdings catalog was examined. The Board expressed favorable opinions about this service to the public. The librarian was directed to discuss with the city attorney, the film registration cards and how binding these forms are. Also the librarian discussed the reserve book situation. Mrs. Pringle explained the great amount of time involved with the telephoning patrons, and suggested the im- plementation of a .10 cent charge to cover the cost of a postcard. This system would provide better service for the patrons, and would result in more efficient use of staff time. The Board was in favor of this system and expressed its approval. The meeting adjourned at 6:03 p.m. Mr. Travis Bryan, Jr. President Mrs. Linda Pringle, Libr rian and Secretary to the Board • 411 BRYAN PUBLIC LIBRARY ACCOUNT 4027 FEBRUARY 1978 ACCOUNT NAME BUDGET EXPEND.
