Reorganization of statistics B. Film program 411 • Air � The employment of Miss Ivette Mansilla was discussed. Mrs. Richardson and Mrs. Pringle explained to the Board why it would be impossible at any time in the future to employ Miss Mansilla, as she has not yet received her citizenship papers. Qualified though she is, it would have to be proven that she was the only person eligible for the position. Mrs. Richardson said Mr. Bob Harris, Personnel Director, had written to Miss Mansilla advising her of the situation. Mrs. Pringle's replacement as Assistant Reference Librarian and Librarian in charge of the Library's program to the aged, was discussed. Mrs. Richardson and Mrs. Pringle reported that to date we had had two qualified applicants. This position will be open March 1. Also discussed in this connection was Mr. Odle's suggestion that this position should carry, when filled, the title of Assistant City Librarian. Under new business the librarian presented her annual report which was discussed by the Board members who had received it before the meeting. Mr. Bryan appointed Mrs. Flores and Mrs. Pruitt to serve as the nominating committee to select the new Board officers. In her farewell to the Board, Mrs. Richardson commended them_ on being one of the most dedicated, interested, and qualified Boards she had had in her seventeen and one half years as director of the library. She said that she was leaving with no regrets, that she had enjoyed every hour of her time as librarian, and that, in leaving, she felt assured that she left the library in good hands with a dedicated Board and Mrs. Pringle as librarian. She felt that it was the right time for a new librarian with a fresh outlook and with new ideas; but one whom she felt confident would carry on the programs she had initiated and the progress she had made possible. Present were Mr. Travis B. Bryan, Jr. , Chairman of the Board, Mrs. Willie Pruitt, Mrs. R. J. Holmgreen, Mrs. C. J. Allen, Mrs. Jesse Flores, Mrs. R. H. Harrison, III, and Mrs. Bookman Peters. Under regular business, the minutes of the January meeting were approved as written. The statistics were examined and discussed. Mrs. Pringle will examine the method of recording statistics and will devise a clearer monthly accounting record to be presented to the Board. Under Standing Committees, Mr. Bryan presented his plans for a party honoring Mrs. Hazel Richardson. After much discussion the date of Tuesday, March 28, 1978 was set for the party, which will be held at Briarcrest Country Club. • Mrs. Holmgreen and Mrs. Pruitt presented several gift possibilities to the Board, and an engraved silver tray was chosen. All of the present Board Members and past Board Presidents and their spouses and Mr. and Mrs. Pringle will be invited to attend this party. Under old business, the Nominating Committee gave its report but no action will be taken until the May Board meeting, in accordance with the Bryan City Code. Approval on the annual report, which was presented to the Board in January, was delayed until the March meeting. This action will give all Board members sufficient time to examine this report. Under new business, Mrs. Pringle discussed the current state of the budget, and some new procedures which have been implemented. She reported that as of February 8, 1978, we have $4,563.29 remaining in our book budget to purchase new titles until September 30, 1978, the end of our fiscal year. The librarian will be 111, trying to discover methods by which we can save money and she reported on the savings offered through our Literary Guild subscription plan. The Bro-dart plan versus Baker and Taylor's plan for ordering books was presented • by the Librarian; and she will take the Board's comments to the CTLS advisory meeting in Temple on Feburary 15. Mr. Bryan raised the question of the Library's insurance policy and directed the librarian to find a copy of this policy and to determine its current status. The Texas Library Association's Legislative happening which will be held on April 2, 1978 at Bryan Public Library, was explained to the Board and some disucssion on this followed.
