HomeMy WebLinkAbout01/16/2001 - Regular Minutes - Bryan College Station Library System Advisory Board MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE BRYAN+COLLEGE STATION PUBLIC LIBRARY SYSTEM ADVISORY BOARD January 16, 2001 On the 16th day of January, 2001 the Bryan+ College Station Public Library Advisory Board of the cities of Bryan and College Station, Texas, met in a regular meeting in the meeting room at the Carnegie Center of Brazos Valley History, 111 S. Main, Bryan, Texas and the following members were present: 1. Also present were Mrs. Clara B. Mounce, Community Librarian and Mrs. Laura E. Mills, Secretary/Library. Visitors were Molly Hitchcock and Bill Lancaster. 3. President Larry Ringer called the meeting to order at 5:20 p.m. 4. The minutes of November 21, 2000 were approved as distributed. • 5. Monthly statistics for November and December 2000 were discussed. 6. In old business, Mrs. Mounce stated the computers from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation are in place at the libraries in Bryan, College Station and the Carnegie Center. A trainer from the Gates Foundation will be here for five days later in January. A sneak preview is scheduled for January 31. 7. In new business, College Station City Staff member Molly Hitchcock discussed strategies and resources for preserving local College Station history. Some audio and video clips are in the process of being transcribed and will be forwarded to Jeff Carroll to write a book. Mrs. Mounce stated that the Carnegie Center is available as a depository for materials gathered from the Brazos Valley with professional methods of cataloging, archiving, storage, and providing accessibility to the public. The Board agreed that a letter be sent to the College Station City Manager offering the services mentioned above. 8. In the librarian's report, Mrs. Mounce provided a handout of the Annual Report Comparison from 1987-88 and 1999-2000. She invited the Library Board to the Sneak Preview of the Gates Foundation Computer lab on January 31, 2001 at 4:30 p.m. The board positions held by Mary Chauvin and Bill Lancaster are vacant. Two new board members should be appointed by the College Station City Council by the next meeting. 9. The next meeting will be held at the College Station Library on March 20, 2001. 10.
