HomeMy WebLinkAbout09/19/2000 - Regular Minutes - Bryan College Station Library System Advisory Board MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING • OF THE BRYAN+COLLEGE STATION PUBLIC LIBRARY SYSTEM ADVISORY BOARD September 19, 2000 • On the 19th day of September, 2000 the Bryan+College Station Public Library Advisory Board of the cities of Bryan and College Station, Texas, met in a regular meeting in the meeting room at the College Station Library, 1818 Harvey Mitchell Pkwy. South, College Station, Texas and the following members were present: 1. Also present were Mrs. Clara B. Mounce, Community Librarian and Mrs. Laura E. Mills, . Secretary/Library. 3. President Larry Ringer called the meeting to order. 4. The minutes of July 18, 2000 were approved as distributed. ik 5. Monthly statistics for July and August 2000 were discussed. Mrs. Mounce stated that August circulation was the largest ever. 6. In old business, Mrs. Mounce stated that total registration for the Summer Reading Club was 2,289 with 23, 407 hours read. The number receiving certificates was 813. Mrs. Mounce reported that $99,000 from the Gates Foundation was deposited into a new account with the City for expenditures. Computers. are scheduled to arrive January 31, 2001. Cathie McQuistion attended a two-week training in Seattle. 7. A. In new business, Effie Perry was introduced at the new board member from Bryan. She retired from teaching in the Bryan Independent School District in 1998. B. Mrs. Mounce announced the Teen Read Week program. Lori Hodges, librarian at the College Station Library, and Robin Jones, librarian at Bryan, will coordinate reading activities for young adults during the month of October. The Friends of the Library donated $700.00 for prizes and supplies for a Poetry Café on October 18-19. 8. In the librarian's report, Mrs. Mounce stated that Bryan and College Station will make a proclamation for National Young Readers'Day on November 8. 9. In other business, Elaine Vance announced the Friends' Book Sale on October 12, 13, and 14 with a members' pre-sale event on October 11. Dave Moore extended an invitation to the Board members to the rededication of the Evans Library on October 12. The next meeting will be held at the Bryan Library on November 21, 2000. Mrs. Mounce said she would invite the administrative staff of the Children's Museum to the January meeting. 10. The meeting adjourned at 6:00 p.m. • Larry Ringer, President Clara B.
