MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING
OF THE BRYAN+ COLLEGE STATION PUBLIC LIBRARY SYSTEM ADVISORY BOARD
• March 7, 2000
On the 7th day of March 2000, the Bryan+ College Station Public Library Advisory Board of the cities
of Bryan and College Station, Texas, met in a regular meeting in the meeting room at the College Station
Library, 1818 Harvey Mitchell Parkway, College Station, Texas and the following members were present

2. Also present were Mrs. Clara B. Mounce, Community Librarian; Mrs. Laura E. Mills,
Secretary/Library.
3 President Larry Ringer called the meeting to order. Visitors present were Jeff Kersten and Charlie Shear
of the City of College Station.
4 The minutes of January 18, 2000 were approved as distributed.
• 5 Monthly statistics for January 2000 were discussed. February 2000 statistics were unavailable at the
time of the meeting.
6 There was no old business.
7. In new business, Jeff Kersten, Budget Manger for the city of College of College Station stated that he
was interested in input from the Library Board for strategic budget planning for next year and 10 years
thereafter This would allow better planning and provide advance information to the City Council. Mrs.
Mounce stated that there were no immediate needs for FY 2000-2001; however, future needs would
include a self-check unit and additional staff to maintain additional hours of service . Long range plans may
include a bond issue to fund additional building space. Mr. Kersten mentioned that a random survey could
include a question on whether citizens would support a bond issue for the library.
8. In the Librarian's report, Mrs. Mounce reported that she would travel to Dallas on April 19th at the
request of Bill and Melinda Gates for the cash grant to purchase computers. Mrs. Mounce informed the
Board that two new librarians would complete the professional staffing positions at the College Station
Library. Lou Vonne Johnson will transfer from Bryan to College Station to work part-time until August
16th, and Lori Hodges will begin April 3rd Mrs. Mounce mentioned that the staff was using Baker &
Taylor online services on a trial basis. She announced several upcoming events: a birthday celebration
tree-planting at the Bryan Library on March 15th, a multi-cultural storytelling event at the Palace Theatre on
March 31st, and on April 1St, the Carnegie Library along with Sunny Nash will host a reception honoring the
first black child who received a library card in 1959.
9. The next meeting will be held at the Carnegie Library on May 16, 2000.
10. The meeting adjourned at 6:30 p.m.
