On the 15th day of September 1998, the Bryan+College Station Public Library Advisory Board of the cities
of Bryan and College Station, Texas, met in a regular meeting in the meeting room at the College Station
Public Library, 800 F.M. 2818, College Station, Texas, and the following members were present:

2. Also present were Mrs. Clara B. Mounce, Community Librarian; Mrs. Laura E. Mills, secretary/Library;
Mrs. Kathleen Dill, College Station Librarian. Dr. John Blackburn, Community Services Director was also
present.
3. Larry Ringer,President, called the meeting to order.
• 4. The previous minutes for July 1998 were approved.

slightly lower, but College Station circulation is up.
6. Business: A. Mrs. Dill reported that the Summer Reading Club was a huge success with 2,106 children
registered at the Bryan Library and 1,184 at the College Station Library. In 1999, the activities will be held
on Tuesdays in College Station so that overflow crowds can be offered an opportunity to attend in Bryan on
Wednesdays. Storytime on Wednesdays and Thursdays along with scheduled class visits will be offered at
both libraries starting in October.
B. Mrs. Mounce stated that 4 library board members whose one-year term will end in December would be
eligible for reappointment to serve a two-year term starting January 1999. Dave Moore, Mary Evelyn
Tielking, Bill Lancaster and Mary Chauvin are currently serving one-year terms
Old Business: A. Mrs. Mounce reported that the Carnegie Restoration is going well, but the space seems to
be shrinking due to necessary added construction features. The outside transformers have been removed and
the alleyway will undergo reconstruction with curbs, gutters and landscaping. The Friends of the Library have
mailed letters to downtown merchants for donations to the restoration project.
7. Bill Barzak asked about the possibility of touring-the Carnegie Library on the November 17. Dr. John
Blackburn stated that the Library Board might consider space concerns at the Bryan Public Library at the next
meeting. Elaine Vance announced the Friends of the Library Book sale would be held on October 1, 2, and 3.
Mr. Ringer said the City of College is proceeding with a budget that supports a full-time clerk for the College
Station Library enabling the Library to be open daily at 9 a.m. instead of 10 a.m.
8. The meeting adjourned at 6:00 p.m.
