OF THE BRYAN+COLLEGE STATION PUBLIC LIBRARY SYSTEM ADVISORY BOARD
• May 19, 1998
On the 19th day of May 1998, the Bryan+ College Station Public Library Advisory Board of the cities of
Bryan and College Station, Texas, met in a regular meeting in the meeting room at the College Station Public
Library, 800 F.M. 2818, College Station, Texas, and the following members were present:

2. Also present were Mrs. Clara B. Mounce, Community Librarian; Mrs. Laura E. Mills, secretary/Library;
Mrs. Kathleen Dill, College Station Librarian..
3. Larry Ringer, President, called the meeting to order. Visitors present were Mrs. Glenda Duncan, and Ms.
Robin Jones, Youth Services Librarians.
4. The previous minutes for March 1998 were approved.
AL 5. Monthly statistics for March and April were discussed. Some additional facts are available due to
automation. Mrs. Dill reported that PC Internet use was popular and going smoothly.
6. A. Mrs. Duncan gave a review of planned Summer Reading Club activities. The Kick-Off Activities will be
held on June 3 at Bryan and June 4 at College Station. She added that other activities are scheduled for
Wednesdays at 2 and 3 p.m. at the Bryan Library, and on Thursdays at 2 and 3 p.m. at the College Station
Library. The Junior League will assist with$7,000 in funds and provide volunteers.
B. Ms. Jones reported that the Bryan and College Station Libraries had received $2,500 each as a result of
the grant proposals she had prepared for the Laura Bush Book Festival. The money will be used to develop
the Spanish Book Collection. In addition, Ms. Jones commented that the Dios De Los Ninos Storytelling
Hour was a success. About 65-70 children and family members listened to stories in Spanish told by Kitty
Worley on April 30. The library flyer given to new patrons is now available in Spanish.
7. Mrs. Mounce reported that a meeting will be held on June 1, 1998 for Carnegie Restoration architects,the
Madison Construction Company, and City of Bryan officials who will be in charge of the project. A date will
be set forconstruction to begin. A media event will be planned to "Bash the Wall" which will promote interest
in fund-raising for additional costs of the project. Mrs. Mounce stated that a local citizen donated 6 pressed
wood chairs that were once housed in the Carnegie. They will be refinished and used in the library when open.
Mrs. Mounce stated that the Friends of the Library Annual Meeting on April 29th with guest speaker, Laura
Bush, was a great event.
8. Bill Barzak mentioned that publicity on how successful the cities of Bryan and College Station are working
together as the Library Board would be an idea to explore. The next meeting will be July 21st.
9. The meeting adjourned at 6:30 p.m.
