On the 18th day of March 1997, the Library Board of the City of Bryan, Texas met in a regular meeting in the City Librarian's office at the Bryan Public Library, 201 E. 26th Street, Bryan, Texas, and the following members were present: 2. Mounce, City Librarian; Mrs. Nan Ross, Senior Reference Librarian; Mrs. Kathleen Dill, Youth Services and Automation Administrator; and Mrs. Laura E. Mills, secretary/Library. 3. There were no visitors present 4. The previous minutes for January 1997 were approved. 5. Monthly statistics for the months of January and February 1997 were discussed. It was noted that February •irculation of Bryan books increased and the library was closed a week in January for bar-coding and 1 day for icy weather conditions. 6. There were no committee reports. 7. In the librarians' reports, Mrs. Ross reported that requests for IRS tax forms were still heavy. Requests to i place books on reserve had greatly increased. Mrs. Dill reported plans for the Summer Reading Club activities were in progress for the theme"Incredible Dream Machine". Mrs. Robbin Major, former youth services librarian at Bryan will present one of the programs. Storytime continues with increased participation. 8. The automation project is progressing. The Branch has competed the bar-coding of books on hand. Bryan has completed the adult collection and juvenile fiction and nonfiction and the Easy books through the "R" section. A target date of going on-line with the checkout module is May 1, 1997. Cataloging department is working on the "clean-up" of MARC records. Still left to be done is bar-coding of the media such as records, talking books, magazines, and slides. Over 4,000 patrons have pre-registered for a new library card and those records are in the computer. Mrs. Mounce stated that the Junior League of Bryan-College Station will help fund the Summer Reading Club Activities and provide volunteers. She encouraged the Library Board to attend the Friends of the Library Annual Meeting on April 16, 1997, featuring Elmer Kelton as guest speaker. 9. In requests for items for the agenda, the board requested that Mrs. JoAnn Powell, project coordinator for the Carnegie Restoration, provide an update on the project. 10.
