OF THE BRYAN PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD
May 20, 1997
1. On the 20th day of M� 1997, the Library Board of the City of Bryan, Texas met in a regular meeting in the
in the auditorium at the Bryan Public Library, 201 E. 26th Street, Bryan, Texas, and the following members were

Also present was Mrs. Clara B. Mounce, City Librarian; Mrs. Nan Ross, Senior Reference Librarian; Mrs.
Kathleen Dill, Youth Services and Automation Administrator; and Mrs. Laura E. Mills, secretary/Library. Mr.
Barzak has recently undergone heart surgery and had complications afterward which accounts for his absenteeism.
3. JoAnn Powell, Project Coordinator, Community Development and Cathie McQuistion, Automation Systems
Technician were also present.
4. The previous minutes for March 1997 were approved.
di5. Monthly statistics for the months of March and April were discussed. Circulation in Bryan increased.
6. There were no committee reports.
7. In the librarians' reports, Mrs. Ross reported that reference is very busy. She has been involved in data entry
of children books and training in the new system. Mrs. Dill reported school visits were made to announce
Summer Reading Club activities
8. A. The library will go on-line with the new automation system May 21. Both libraries have been closed on
May 19 and 20 so that equipment can be set in place and additional training provided for the clerks. Board
members were issued new library cards and shown some of the capabilities of the new system. Cathie McQuistion
was recognized for her hard work and expertise in getting the system on-line
B. June 4th is the Summer Reading Club kick-off activity on the library lawn. The program has received
funding and participation from the Bryan-College Station Junior League members. Programs for the summer
include a professional ventriloquist and a marionette program.
C. JoAnn Powell provided an update on the Carnegie restoration project. A copy of the report is attached and
made a part of these minutes.
9. In new business, Mrs. Mounce announced the appointment of Mrs. Dill as College Station Branch Manager.
A new reference librarian's position will be added to the staff at College Station library and hired soon.
Todd Carlson was promoted to Library Assistant II for Bryan.
10. There were no request for items for the agenda.
11. The meeting adjourned at 6:30 p.m.
