OF THE BRYAN PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD
November 19, 1996
•l. On the 19th day of November, 1996, the Library Board of the City of Bryan, Texas met in a regular meeting
in the auditorium of the Bryan Public Library, 201 E. 26th Street, Bryan, Texas, and the following members
were present:

Also present was Mrs. Clara B. Mounce, City Librarian; Ms. Angela Alford, College Station Branch Librarian;
Kathleen Dill, Youth Services/Automation Librarian; and Mrs. Laura E. Mills, secretary/Library.
3. There were no visitors present.
4. The previous minutes for July 1996 were approved.
5. Monthly statistics for the months of September and October 1996 were discussed.
6. There were no committee reports.
7. In the librarians' reports, Mrs. Dill commented that storytime and class visits resumed for the fall session and
gips. Glenda Duncan provides major support in this area. The Accelerated Reader lists currently in use by the
elementary and middle schools are extremely popular. Ms. Alford reported that Branch business is good. Two
Dynix Patron Access Catalog terminals are in use. Scheduling Branch staff to assist in bar-coding books in Bryan
the week of December 2 through 7 is a priority. The Branch staff has had training to use the Dynix system. Mrs.
Mounce stated that she is serving on a Bryan I.S.D. focus group for technology and training needs. She reported
that money will be received from Brazos County to pay for utilities to house the Brazos County Law Library and
provide a part-time clerk to maintain the library. The Library contributed Library Card#125 to the time capsule to
be dedicated as part of the 125th anniversary of the City of Bryan.
8. a. Bill Barzak reported the next step in the new College Station Library will be to present a progress report
including bid specs to the College Station City Council on Dec. 11. The plan is to receive bids by Jan. 15, 1997
with ground-breaking ceremonies to be held March 2, 1997. The Task Force has addressed fund-raising efforts
and of the $300,000 additional funds desired, about $140,000 has been pledged. Fundraising efforts include major
donations, sale of brick pavers and ceramic handprint tiles for the wall art in the juvenile area of the library.
b. Mrs. Mounce stated that construction drawings for the Carnegie project were received on November 1961. After
review, the architects will begin construction bid writing and a timeline will be established for advertising bid
specs.
c. The library system has opened the Patron Access Catalog terminals for library use. Almost 1,000 patrons have
pre-registered for a new card. The Bryan library will be closed the week of Dec. 2-7 for bar-coding of books.
The College Station Library is scheduled to be closed 3 days later in December for bar-coding.
9. For the next agenda, the President suggested that a discussion about the selection of Library Board members
to include residents of College Station b�considered at the next.meeting.
