OF THE BRYAN PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD
September 17, 1996

1. On the 17th day of September, 1996, the Library Board of the City of Bryan, Texas gathered in the
auditorium of the Bryan Public Library, 201 E. 26th Street, Bryan, Texas, and the following members were
present: (Since a quorum was not present, business was discussed but not approved.)

Also present was Mrs. Clara B. Mounce, City Librarian; Ms. Angela Alford, College Station Branch Librarian;
Mrs. Nan Ross, Senior Reference Librarian; Mrs. Kathleen Dill, Youth Services/Automation Librarian; and Mrs.
Laura E. Mills, secretary/Library.
3. There were no visitors present.
4. The previous minutes for July 1996 will be submitted for approval at the next meeting .
5. Monthly statistics for the months of July and August were discussed.
. 6. There were no committee reports.
7. In the librarians' reports, Mrs. Dill reported that a total of 1,886 children registered for the Summer Reading
Club. The number of completed goals was 25% which is average. The 10 Wednesday programs drew an
average of 308 per session. Storytime will begin in October. Letters were mailed to day care and kindergarten
directors to schedule three class visits and response has been good. Ms. Alford stated that business at the
Branch is good. School assignments were heavy and letters were sent to schools requesting the reading lists for
each grade. A model of the proposed College Station Library is on display; fund-raising efforts to supplement
the bond issue for the library will be handled by former College Station Mayor Larry Ringer. Automation
training for the Branch staff has been conducted in the past several weeks. Mrs. Ross commented that new
genealogy users were continuing to discover the research programs and there was a need for additional shelving
in the genealogy room.
8. a. Mrs. Mounce displayed the building plans for the College Station Library for the Board to view.
b. Mrs. Mounce spoke about the Carnegie Library Restoration. A recent meeting with the architects revealed
a few interior building changes. Additional fund-raising efforts for the project will be handled by the Friends of
the Library.
c. The automation project has experienced few delays. A decision to pre-register patrons will begin one month
prior to start-up. Mrs. Dill showed Library Board members a prototype of the "credit-card style" library card
that will be issued.
9. There were no requests for items for the agenda.
10. The meeting ended at 6:15 p.m.
