OF THE BRYAN LIBRARY BOARD
. January 2O 1988
1 . On the 20th of January, 1988, the Library Board of the
City of Bryan, Texas, convened in regular session in - the
regular place in the Reading Area of the Library. Building at
5:05 p.m. and the following members were present:

Also present were Mrs. Clara B. Jounce, City Librarian; Mrs.
�lerilynrr Nilliams, Associate City Librarian , and Mrs. Laura
• Mills, secretary.
3. No visitors were present.
4. The minutes for November were approved as presented.
a. Statistics for November and December were discussed.
Mrs. Mourrce noted that circulation for December is normally
loner than other months since the bool:mc:st ile is off the road
- or two weeks.
G. There were no committee reports.
7. The City Librarian reported that an art auction
fundraiser for the Branch library sponsored the Civic
Association of College Station would be J• eld on February 1.3.
Mrs. Mounce commented that she had provided Larry Catlin of
the Bryan City Council some statistics ar d information on the
Branch Library for a Council report. In �'anuary, the Branch
had sessioned 5,000 volumes in the permarent collection .
Also in the Librarian 's report, Mrs. Mot!nce noted that the
suggestion boxes in the library were beirg used and that 90%
of the comments were favorable.
A copy of the bounty budget should b - available in the
library soon . The City Librarian stated that she had
had been notified that the Nestlaw contract with the Brazos
County Bar Association had been terminat 4d and the equipment
would be removed from the library.
:> Friends,.a h�. of the Library wrote a letter to the
City Council endorsing the restoration of the old Carnegie

Library as a local history museum o r any similar purlose.
The Library Board also agreed tb support this effort.
Mrs. Jeri Ni 1liams reported that the new coordinator 'for
III the Brazos Valley Adult Literacy council was Patty Urbina.
She commented that the council had receii. ed grants of
%<23,000 for the next year .
8. There was no unfinished business.
9.A. In .rrew business, Mrs. Mounce reporter' that she had
recently trained three people on the Kura iieil. and that the
Friends of the Library had agreed to finance the maintenance
agreement for a prorated period of 8 months.
B.Mrs. Mounce reported that Robbin Maj r, children '_
librarian, resigned January 10. Interviews were being
conducted and a replacement is needed soc: n . The library
staff is also understaffed due to the recent surgery and
recovery of Nan Ross, reference librarian .
C.The board discussed the meetings for 1988. Since the by—
laws state that there shall be open meetings, it was agreed
that they should be held when the library is open to the
public. The motion was made by Mrs. Alfc: rd, seconded by Mr's.
L aMountt to change the meetings to the t1• ird Tuesday of the
month rather than the third Wednesday anc to be held in the
months of January, March, May, July, September, and November
in the library auditorium. The motion carried.
• 10. Under old business, the City Librarian reported that the
Friends of the Library expenditures will include funding for
a part-'time clerk to help with the video cassette collection .
The Friends will match funds from the Arts Council grant to
start the video cassette collection .
11 . There were no requests for items for the agenda.
12. The meeting adjourned at 6:30 p.m.
