11 May 21, 1986
1 . On the :?.l of May, 1986, the Library Board of the City of
Bryan. Texas, convened in regular session in the regular
place in the Reading Area of the Library T ua.'adinc , at 5:05
p.m. the following members present:

• Also present were Mrs. Clara B. Mounce, City Librarian; Mrs.
Jerilynn A. Nilliams, Associate City Librarian ; and Mrs.
Laura Mills, secretary.
3. There e,'ere no visitors.
4. The minutes were approved as mailed.
5. The monthly report of statistics for March and April were
presented. A slight decrease in circulation was noted due to
the Bookmobile 's time off the road due to mechanical repair- .
6. There were no committee reports.
7. In the librarian 's report, Mrs. Mounce stated that the
heating and air conditioning units still had not been
repaired, Mrs. !•/ounce asked the Board to observe the painting
of the old Carnegie Library on the stairwell donated by the
Friends of the Library in honor of Jim Beard. The Friends
also purchased a large display case for the Rountree Room.
Mrs. Mounce reported that the Brazos County History Book was
on sale now. Since it is a project of the City of Bryan
Sesquicentennial Committee, the library will acquire all
original photographs and documents used in the publication .
The City Librarian expressed a successful use of the Kurzweil
Reading Machine. She has trained three people and a fourth
410 student will be trained in June.
8. 2runfinished business, the City Librarian reported trted <?rr
the progress of the branch library in College Station . She
stated that several sites are under consideration and that
the contract prepared by the College Station city council had
been presented to Bryan . The City Manager asked for Mrs.

Mounce 's remarks and questions and it has been given hack to
College Station for further consideration .
9.A. Mrs. Mounce proposed that the board consider adopting a
Spolicy regarding children and the use of the elevator . A
patron recently tripped and fell into the elevator when a
child stopped the elevator about three inches above the
floor . Mr . Madeley called for a motion that the Board adopt
a policy that prohibits use of the elevator by children
unless accompanied by an adult, excluding, of course,
handicapped children who must use the elevator . Mrs. Gibson
made the motion, seconded by Mr . Paulos, the motion carried.
The City Librarian announced that two Librarians had
been honored at the City Employee Awards banquet. Mrs.
Williams and Mrs. Robbin Major received permanent P.R. I.D.E.
awards. Mrs. Mounce announced that Mrs. Williams has also
been selected as Division Employee of the Year and will be
recognized at the City council meeting May 27.
Two board members have been reappointed; Mrs. Gibson and
Judge Ruffino will serve another term. Mrs. Bogard 's term
expired and the Board expressed gratitude for her many years
of service on the Board. Mr . Paulos asked that Janet
LaMountt 's name be submitted for appointment to the Board.
10. There were no requests for items for the agenda for the
next meeting. Mr . Madeley suggested that no meetings be held
during the summer months unless a called meeting was
