OF THE BRYAN LIBRARY BOARD
• JUNE 16, 1982
On the 16th of June, 1982, the Library Board of the City of Bryan, Tex. ,
convened in regular session in the regular meeting place in the Reference
Room located in the Library building at 5 p.m. with the following members
present.

ITEM 1. The minutes of the May 19 meeting were approved as mailed.
ITEM 2. The 1982-83 budget request for the librarywas reviewed bymembers of

• the Board and a discussion _ followed.A motion to support the
budget as presented was made by Mrs. Allen and seconded by Mr.
McGuire, and unanimously approved. A statement to this effect
will be added to the budget papers.
ITEM 3. The librarian announced that on the first day of registration
for the summer reading program the children's dept. circulated
1,075 books in one day. In the first few days 872 children from
Bryan-College Station have signed up for the program.
ITEM 4. At the July meeting, the Board will review the memorial fund
program and library fees and fines in order to make recommendations.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:05 p.m.

JUNE 16, 1982
The Bryan Library Board of Trustees met in regular session June 16, 1982 at 5 p.m.
Present were Mrs. Bookman Peters, Mrs. C. J. Allen, Mrs. R. H. Harrison, III,
Mrs. Willie Belle Bogard, Mr. Mickey McGuire, Mrs. Jean Muetzel, Mrs. Judy White,
and Mrs. Clara B. Mounce.
Excused were Mrs. Willie Pruitt and Mr. Vic Paulos.
The minutes of the May meeting were approved as mailed.
A budget packet was reviewed by members of the Board and a discussion followed.
The librarian has requested that the library improvement line item in capital outlay
reflect a percentage of the total budget. Standards were discussed. It is recommend-
ed by the Central Texas Library System that 15 to 30% of the budget be spent on books
and other materials intended for patron use. The amount in this year's budget for
• library improvement is $33,292, which is 9% of the total budget. The 82-83 request
is approximately 12% of the asked for budget.
The travel request was discussed and Mrs. Peters recommended that the reports
written by librarians who attended the Texas State Library Conference be attached as
background information for Mr. Clark.
A motion to support the budget as presented was made by Mrs. Allen and seconded
by Mr. McGuire, and unanimously approved. A statement 'to this effect will be added
to the budget papers. Several members of the Board expressed the intention to call
or write Mr. Clark on behalf of the budget request.
The librarian announced that the response to the summer reading program was very
encouraging. On the first day of registration the Rountree Room circulated 1,075
books. In the first few days 872 Bryan-College Station children had registered for
• the Space Capers program.
Movies selected for teen agers and older will be shown on Monday evenings at
• 7 o'clock. An average attendance has been 45 persons. The entire list of movies
hasrbeen published in the Eagle and Center Magazine. Flyers have been distributed.
At the July meeting, the Board will review the memorial fund program and
library fees and fines in order to make recommendations for the future policies in
these areas.
The meeting adjourned at 6:05 p.m.
