HomeMy WebLinkAbout03/15/1972 - Regular Agenda Packet - Bryan College Station Library System Advisory Board March 15, 1972
The Bryan Public Library Board of Trustees met at 5:00 P. M. in
• the Library on March 15th.
Present were Dr. Paul Crawford, Dr. Turner Walton, Mrs. R. J. Holmgreen,
and Mr. Edsel Burkhart.
Mrs. Richardson, the Librarian, was present.
The minutes of the last meeting were approved as written.
In an examination of the, statistics it was noted that the circulation
was up 20% over February of last year. The bookiis.t for the month was
discussed and approved.
In reports on Library Programs, Mrs. Holmgreen said that she was
preparing an article on the Singing Cadets for publication in State and
National professional journals.
Dr. Walton reported a good attendance and renewed interest at the last
• Great Books Discussion.
On our new program, Cultural Enrichment and Service to the disadvantaged,
Mrs. Richardson said she had ordered custom framed prints, statuary, and
educational kits which would circulate to patrons and classrooms. She
also reported that the $500 in the budget for custom framed prints had
been spent, i. e. , the prints had been ordered from New York Graphic Society.
Mrs. Richardson reported that there would be one musical appreciation
program this month, Dvorak recordings on March 18. In April there would
be two programs, two pianists on April 15th and four violinists on April '
29th.
Dr. Crawford reported that four hundred people had attended the band
concert in the auditorium. He felt that we should encourage other schools
in the County to make such use of the auditorium.
411 Mrs. Richardson said that Mr. Peter Bisesi, formerly with Remington
Library Bureau and now with Sunniland, had come in and discussed the case
for rare books which we are going to purchase. Sunniland's price is much
41, lower than Remington's. She discussed with him the proposed wall coverings.
He advised her that Sunniland did this sort of thing and that they would
be glad to send their decorator to make a free estimate. Mrs. Richardson
said she had discussed the matter with Mr. Sandlin and that he was agreeable
to having this done. The Board concurred.
Mrs. Richardson brought up Borrower§! Cards and outlined a plan whereby
we would have only borrowers' cards which could be used in the charging
machine. They would be:
A cards for Allen Academy students.
B cards for all Bryan residents.
C cards for all College Station residents including A & M students.
X cards for Brazos County residents outside the city limits of
Bryan and College Station.
IIMT cards for residents of adjacent counties to Brazos.
Mrs. Richardson gave a report on National Library Week plans and said
that the Friends of the Library had engaged Mr. John Henry Faulk as the
speaker at their annual meeting on April 16.
The matter of intent to make application for Title II funds was dis-
cussed. The Librarian said that we would have to have the City Commission's
approval of intent to apply. Mr. Burkhart moved that the Librarian talk
to Mr. Sandlin and ask him to present it to the Commission. Dr. Walton
seconded the motion which passed.
Under new business the Librarian reported a complaint from an A & M
student about too much noise in the Library from the staff members' at the
Main Charge Desk. She said she had spoken to the staff.
The Librarian's report included a short resume of her attendance at
the Texas State Historical Association meeting in Fort Worth on March 10th
and 11th.
She reported an unpleasant incident in the Rountree Room and what
she had done about it.
The meeting adjourned at 6:12 P. M.
