HomeMy WebLinkAbout06/10/1970 - Regular Agenda Packet - Bryan College Station Library System Advisory Board June 10, 1970 The Bryan Public Library Board of Trustees held its regular meeting on June 10th at 5:00 P. M. in the Library. Present were: Dr. Paul Crawford, Mrs. Julia Casarez, Mrs. John Mc Intyre, Mr. W. D. Dunn, Mr. R. L. Peurifoy, and Dr. T. T. Walton, Jr. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. In an examination of the statistics the following increases were noted over May of last year: - Adult circulation up 20% Evening circulation up 50% Evening attendance up 100% Story hour attendance up 85% Mr. Dunn moved the approval of the book orders. Mrs. McIntyre seconded the motion which passed. - The Building and Grounds Committee reported that nothing further had been done about the installation of the sound system in the auditorium. On the Library sign for the building Mr. Peurifoy reported the matter still is in the hands of the Architect. The reports on the Nine point program were as follows: On Family Night at the Movies Mrs. Mclntrye reported good publicity for the last one but a disappointing attendance. Mrs. Richardson reported- on the Great Books Discussion Group. which held its last meeting on Monday, June 1st. They will convene again in September. On the slides program Dr. Crawford reported the gift of five sets of slides of the Passion Play from the Black Hills, Spearfish, South Dakota. He reported also on the gift of the Bryan Rotary Club slides on eight foreign countries. it On Floral Arrangements by the .Garden Clubs, Mrs. Richardson reported one on exhibit at the moment , from the Progressive Garden Club. Mrs. Richardson reported that the records ordered for Saturday After- noon at the Opera had not yet arrived. In conclusion to discussion of the Nine Point Program, Dr. Crawford asked that the minutes reflect that eight of the nine programs were in effective operation and that we awaited the installation of the sound system and the arrival of the records to complete the programs. Mrs. Ruth Mogford appeared before the Board and asked their endorsement of a petition to the City Commission from the Brazos Valley Art Associa- tion and the Bryan-College Station Art Club to use the Old Carnegie Library Building. Consensus of opinion from the Board was that the proposed use of the old building by the two art clubs was appropriate and that they, therefore , gave their endorsement to this petition. The Librarian reported on the 1970-1971 budget. She said that in cutting the budget as presented to the 'City Manager , Mr. Sandlin had asked that the proposed full time desk assistant be removed and that the page allotment be cut 1;1500. On personnel, the Librarian reported the resignation of Miss Rhyne Murray, Assistant in the Rountree Room, effective July 1. Gifts to the Library reported were: $750 from the Lone -Star Gas Co. , presented by Mr. Logan Wilson, District Manager. This money is= to be used to buy books- on genealogy. ,$1000 to the Library Board of Trustees by Dr. George Summey, Jr. under the terms of his will. Mrs. Richardson read a letter from Mr. Isaacs, Trust _ Officer of First Bank & Trust, which stated that it would be two years before the .estate would be settled.- The meeting adjourned at 6:30 P. M.
