HomeMy WebLinkAbout09/10/1969 - Regular Agenda Packet - Bryan College Station Library System Advisory Board September 10,. 1969 4110 The Carnegie Library Board of Trustees held its regular meeting on September 10th at 5:00 P. M. in the Library. present were Dr. Paul Crawford, Mr. W. D. Dunn, Mr. David Garcia, and Mr. R. L. Peurifoy. Mr. Fred Sandlin,the City Manager , and Mrs. Hazel Richardson, the Librarian, were present. - The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. In an examination of the statistics it was noted that the circulation was up 255 over August of last year. - The book orders were discussed and_ approved. In a report on the progress of the new building Mr. Sandlin said it would be necessary to have a meeting of the Building Committee as soon as possible for recommended change orders and decisions on problems which had come up about the site work. A tentative date for the meeting was set for Tuesday, 4/111 September 16th at 7:30 in the Conference room. Further report from Mr. Sandlin was on the installation of the sound system in the Auditorium of the new building. Mr. Sandlin said the city would employ an electrician to install the sound system. Mr. Sandlin said that -a date could not be set for moving as decisions by the building committee would effect this. It was decided that a tentative date for the formal opening of the Library could be made and planning get under way on this. By common consent the Board decided that this would be on a Saturday, either the 6th or 13th of December. The selection of a speaker for the occasion was discussed. Reports were made on the progress of Dr. Crawford 's nine point program. Mrs. Richardson reported that she had sent out for bids the proposed art lending collection for children which we hope to have ready for circulation 411011 when we move into the new Library. In Mrs. McIntyre's absence Mrs. Richardson reported that Mrs. McIntyre had written a number of letters of inquiry on films to be used in the family night programs. Dr. Crawford and Mrs. Richardson reported on the trip they made with Mr. Davis McGill to the Waco Public Library to examine the Business Suite set up there. Mr. McGill has gotten out letters to business men in the com- munity asking them to suggest services and books they would like to have in- cluded in the Business Suite. Mrs. Richardson said she was tentatively to locate this section on the second floor of the Library in the reading area. Mr. Garcia presented the list of records he has chosen to begin the Record Collection. The list included a wide variety: Uhow to," musicals, classical, band music, and plays. Mr. Dunn and Dr. Crawford on the continuous slide series have checked the Pana-Vue slide catalogs and have their order ready. 11P0 Dr. Crawford appointed Mr. Peurifoy Chairman of the Saturday Afternoon at the Opera Program. Mr. Peurifoy will write to other libraries where this program is featured and gather information as to how it is done. Mrs. Richardson advised the Board of the proposed gift of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Sharp of a wall sculpture by the California artist, Curtis Jere. Mrs. Richardson was asked to write Mr. and Mrs. Sharp a letter of appreciation. The Board examined the written policy regarding the use of areas in the new Library by clubs and organizations. Mr. Peurifoy recommended approval after changes were made. Mrs. Richardson asked the Board if they would like her to continue the compilation of salary range statistics which the retiring Board had asked her to get from other Texas libraries.
