HomeMy WebLinkAbout11/12/1969 - Regular Agenda Packet - Bryan College Station Library System Advisory Board November 12, 1969 The Carnegie Library Board of Trustees held its regular meeting on November 12 at 5:00 P. M. in the Library. Those members present were Dr. Paul Crawford, -Mr: W. D. Dunn, Dr. T. T. . Walton, Jr., and Mr. R. L. Peurifoy. Mrs. Hazel Richardson, the Librarian, was present. - Dr. Walton's quote for the month was: "It is with books as with men: A very small number play a great part." The minutes of the last meeting were approved as read. The statistics for the month were examined and Dr. Crawford noted a substantial increase in circulation. Dr. Crawford and Mrs. Richardson presented letters of acceptance from Senator Ralph Yarborough to give the address at the-dedication of the new building on December 14 at 3:00 P. M. .Dr. Crawford asked the Librarian to send copies of the . acceptance--letters to Norman Beal. - The program for the dedication was planned. It was decided that Dr. Walton should ask the Reverend H. Bailey Stone to give the invocation and that Mr. Garcia should ask Monsignor Valenta to give the benediction. Dr. Crawford said he would arrange for the bands of S.F.A. and Kemp -High Schools to give preliminary music. After the invocation the Mayor would give his welcome. Dr. Crawford would acknowl- edge and welcome distinguished guests and officials, present and past board members, past Presidents of the Friends, former librarians, presidents of civic, cultural, and historical clubs. Mrs. Richardson reported another meeting of the executive board of the Friends at which "they had decided to give the reception which would immediately follow the dedicatory ceremonies. They will print the invitations and the brochures which will include the program for the day. - A discussion was held on the various sign problems at the new building. It was agreed that Mr. Dunn should call Mr. Sandlin to find out what the City Commission �- had decided to do about the signs on the outside of the building. It was decided that the signs Mr. Hardeman was making for the Rountree Room should be paid for from the Brandon estate funds. Mrs. Richardson asked that the Board make a decision about the arrangement of the furniture on the second floor reading area. It was decided that on adjournment the Board would go to the new building for a discussion of this problem. The Books and MagazinesChairman reported that the Librarianwould make no big orders until we were in the new building. The McNaughton orders were approved. Dr. Walton moved that the Librarian order a set of the Great Books of the Western World. Mr. Dunn seconded the motion which carried. There was a discussion of Dr. Richard H. Harrison's proposed gift to the Library. Dr. Walton will speak further with him concerning it. The Librarian reported that she would get the L. S. C. A.
