HomeMy WebLinkAbout12/11/1968 - Regular Minutes - Bryan College Station Library System Advisory Board December 11, 1968 ilkDecember,, The Carnegie Library Board held its regular meeting on De ce 11, 1968 at 5:30 P.M. in the Library. A Christmas reception for the Board and Staff)in the Rountree Room preceeded the meeting. Mr. Edsel Burkhart, President of the Board, presided at the business meeting. Those present were Dr. Paul Crawford, Mrs. Dan Hudson, Dr. Tom King, Mr. Bookman Peters, and Mr. C. B. McGown, Jr. , Mrs. Hazel Richardson, the Librarian, was present. Mr. Burkhart adizised the Board of the offer from Lee Brawner, As- sistant State Librarian of a $22,500 supplemental LSCA Title II grant. This supplement would increase the total grant on our construction project to $172,500. These supplemental funds became available through the can- cellation of another 1967 federally funded project. There was a general discussion as to the exact use of the money in 41/ the construction project. Dr. Crawford moved that the Board write the City Manager acknowledging the offer of the money and offering the Board's assistance in the procurement or utilization of the funds. Mrs. Hudson seconded the motion and it carried. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. The Librarian reported that the book order for the month was almost entirely Juvenile. It was moved by Mrs. Hudson that the book order be approved. The motion was seconded and passed. The Librarian reported that application for LSCA Title I funds for 1968-1969 had been received and completed and would be returned to Mrs. Shultz, Field Services Director of the State Library, as soon as it was signed by Mr. Burkhart, and Mr. Sandlin. Mr. McGown moved the authoriza- 101 - tion of the Board of the Title I application. Dr. Crawford seconded the motion and it passed. Mr. Burkhart signed the application in behalf of the Board. There was a discussion of the Art Lending Collection and selections were made by several of the members of pictures to be ordered with the Beta Sigma Phi Council gift, as decided at the November meeting. It was moved by Mr. McGown that the time of loan on a framed print be extended from four to six weeks, .,in order to coordinate with the three week period of book loans. Dr. King seconded the motion which :passed. Dr. Crawford moved that the Librarian be authorized to expend $300 for plastic protective carrying cases for the framed prints. By common consent, this is to be done after suitable inquirylras:::,been made by the Librarian as to quality and cost of the cases. Mrs. Hudson seconded the motion which passed. The Librarian reported her attendance at the District V meeting of the Texas Library Association at Baytown at which she spoke on The Proposed Library Legislation for-State Aid and what it could do for public libraries. 40/ Mr. McGown expressed the appreciation of the Board for the reception the staff had- given them preceeding the meeting.
