HomeMy WebLinkAbout02/28/2011 - Regular Minutes - Senior Advisory Committee College Station Senior Advisory Committee Regular Meeting Monday, February 28, 2011 Southwood Community Center 1520 Rock Prairie Rd 10:00ar MINUTES Members Present: Jon Denton, Frank Duchmasclo, Anne e Hazen, Robert Meyer, Colleen Risinger, Dorthea Robinson, Ron Silvia and Joanna Yeager Members Absent: ER Burns, Dorothy Hernandez and Colleen Risinger Staff resent: Kelly Keibly, Southwood Community Center Supervisor and Marci Rodgers, Senior Services Coordinator Call to order The meeting was called to order at 10:00 am by Joanna Yeager, Chairman IL Welcome guests and visitors No guests or visitors present. III. Approval of minutes from regular meeting on January 31, 2011 Ron Silvia made the motion to approve the minutes. Frank Duchmasclo seconded the motion. The motion on passed unanimously IV. Presentation, discussion and possible action on "Wish List" for Southwood Community Center Frank Duchmascio reported that SAM'S Club agreed to donate $50.00 to Southwood Community ity Center. Mr, Duchmasclo was also told by Sam's to apply for addition funds on-line with the Sam's club donation program. He will work with staff on the application in hopes of receiving additional funds for the center. Presentation, discussion and possible action to amend the Senior Advisory Committee By-Laws Jon Denton reported to the committee on a proposed amendment to the current by-laws by adding a standing sub-committee under Article IV to read: Section 2. Committee on Facilities d Programming The chair of the Senior Advisory Committee shall appoint a standing sub-committee on Facilities and Programming. This sub-committee will consist ,f 3 to 5 members with the charge of proposing and planning programs and services for seniors coordinated through City Staff The sub-committee will report their proposed activities to the Senior Advisory Committee for approval. " Anne Hazen made the motion to approve the amendment as presented. Ron Silvia seconded the motion. The motion was approved unanimously. Presentation, discussion and possible action concerning suggested activities for Southwood Community Center by the program sub-committee Anne Hazen reported on the meeting of the program sub-committee held February 15, 2011. The sub-committee worked with staff to set the March calendar with afternoon activities. The committee received a copy of the March calendar with regular weekly activities offered free at the center such as birthday parties, health tips, movies, crafts and games including bingo. The program committee will meet next month to discuss the summer calendar for seniors at Southwood Community Center. VI. Presentation, possible action and discussion on Senior Services Coordinator report regarding upcoming programs and events. (report attached) Marci Rodgers reported on programs held at the Southwood Community Center and other city facilities. Planning details are being finalized on the Senior Expo in May and the State Senior Games hosted by the Brazos Valley Senior Games in June. VII. Presentation, discussion and possible action on future agenda items: A Committee member may inquire about a subject for which notice has not been given. A statement of specific factual information o the recitation of existing policy may be given. Any deliberation shall be limited to a proposal to place the subject on an agenda for a subsequent meeting. Recognition tiles for donors VIII.
