Members Present: RE. Burns, Jon Denton,Frank Duchmaselo, Anne Hazen, Dorothy
Hernandez, Jerry Markowich, Robert Meyer, Colleen Risinger and Dorthea Robinson
Members Absent: Joyce Davis, Ron Silvia and Joanna Yeager
Staff Present: David Schmitz, Assistant Director Parks and Recreation Department; Peter
Lamont, Recreation Superintendant; Kelly Kelbly, EXIT Teen Center Supervisor and Marci
Rodgers, Senior Services Coordinator
I. Call to order The meeting was called to order at 10:00 a.m. by Anne Hazen, serving
as Chairman in the absence of Joanna Yeager.
IL Welcome guests and visitors New members and guests were welcomed. Committee
members introduced themselves at the conclusion of the meeting.
HI. Approval of minutes from regular meeting on July 26, 2010 Robert Meyer made
the motion to approve the minutes. Frank Duchmasclo seconded the motion. The
motion passed.
IV. Report from the Chairman
• Letter to Committee from Joanna Yeager, Chairman Members received a
letter from Joanna Yeager explaining her absence and expressing her suggestions
and ideas for the Senior Center.
V. Discussion, consideration and possible action on budget hearings with Marcos
"Tony" Cisneros, Director, Parks and Recreation Department David Schmitz
explained to the committee that Tony Cisneros announced last Friday that he will be
leaving the city as Director of the Parks and Recreation Department. David Schmitz
will serve during the interim. David explained that the department was moving
forward with the City Council's desire on the use of the facility. Kelly Kelbly
explained that the center will be open Monday through Friday from 8:00am - 3:00 pm
for the seniors with a staff member beginning October 1, 2010. The teens will use the
facility from 3:00pm until closing and rentals would be available in the evenings and
on weekends. Current programs for older adults have been scheduled for the fall at
the Teen Center and are listed in the Xtra Education brochure.
VI. Discussion, consideration and possible action on suggestions for Senior Center
Operations
The committee discussed several ideas for programs and activities as well as the use
of volunteers, membership fees and transportation. A program committee was
formed with Robert Meyer, Jon Denton, Dorothy Hernandez, Anne Hazen and Joanna
Yeager. The committee will meet and discuss activities to be offered at the center
between the hours of 8:00 am— 3:00 pm during the weekdays and report at the next
meeting of the Senior Advisory Committee.
VII. Presentation, possible action and discussion on Senior Services Coordinator
report regarding upcoming programs and events. (report attached)
VIII. Presentation, discussion and possible action on future agenda items: A
Committee member may inquire about a subject for which notice has not been
given. A statement of specific factual information or the recitation of existing
policy may be given. Any deliberation shall be limited to a proposal to place the
subject on an agenda for a subsequent meeting.
