MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING BRYAN + COLLEGE STATION PUBLIC LIBRARY SYSTEM ADVISORY BOARD MAY 1 , 200 On the 18th day of May, 2010,the Bryan ÷College Station Public Library System Advisory Board of the cities of Bryan and College Station,Texas,met in a regular meeting at the Clara B. Mounce Public Library, 201 E. 26th Street, Bryan,Texas. 1. Sonia Gangotena,Vice President, called the meeting to order at 5:15 p.m.and the following were present: 2. Other attendees were Larry Koeninger, Community Librarian; Kathleen Dill, Ringer Library Manager; Susan Pare, Ringer Librarian; Joey Dunn, Deputy City Manager; and Laura Mills, Administrative Assistant. 4. The minutes of the meeting for March 23, 2010 were approved as distributed. 5. The monthly stats for March and April 2010 were reviewed. The collection increased in the Clara Mounce stats due to the purchase of e-audio books from Recorded Books. 6. In old business, Dr. Koeninger reported that no action had been taken from the CIP to recommend an architect for the Ringer expansion project. 7. A. In new business, Dr. Koeninger stated that the Interlocal Agreement forthe Ringer Library is under review. Both finance departments are involved and the formula for funding the Ringer Library will most likely be revised. Any proposed changes are subject to approval from the legal departments of both cities and discussed with the Library Advisory Board. B. Dr. Koeninger reported the budget is under discussion. The City of Bryan is looking for ways to conserve funds for the remainder of the fiscal year. C.Bobbee Pennington updated the board on the summer events planned at the libraries, She stressed the importance of keeping kids reading during the summer to keep reading skills loss to a minimum. D. Susan Pare shared information about the Adult Summer Reading Program at both libraries. Special programs are planned including a Meet and Greet reception with the Dr. Koeninger and a workshop on genealogical research. Peggy Noynaert, Librarian at the Ringer Library will host a monthly book club.The Friends of the Library will help fund the program by providing small prizes to participants. 8. Librarians report: See attached report from Dr. Koeninger. 9. The next meeting is scheduled for July 20, 2010 at the Carnegie History Center. 10. Ringer Library with our Animal Showcase for the Kick-Off of our 20 10 Summer Reading Program on June 5 and our Big Rig program on June 15. We could not have done it without them. Theydelivered shade tents, put themand took them down atthe end of each day. up They treated for fire ants, brought extra garbage cans, safety vests, tables, pooper s oo ers, water hose and more. We had over 3200 visitors to our library on June 5 for the Animal Showcase between 11 AM and 2 PM M with many children signing up for the Summer Reading Program. We had 189 registered cars at the event. The support of the City of College Station&The Parks and Recreation Department goes a long way toward making the event a success.We look forward to working with you on our loth event in 2011. As you know our club is incorporated in the State of Texas as a non profit and has,Ncently been designated as a 501 (C)4 nby the IRS.This year proceeds from the event will be donated to Hospice of the Brazos Valley and Still Creek Ranch.
