Members Present: Joyce Davis, Dorothy Hernandez, Clifford Linsey,Neal Nutall, Colleen
Risinger, Jean Roberts, Dorthea Robinson, Ron Silvia and Joanna Yeager
Members Absent: E.E. Bums, Anne Hazen, Jack Hernandez, Laura Holmes and Yvonne Stevens
Call to order The meeting was called to order at 10:00 a.m. by Ron Silvia,
Chairman
IL Welcome of Guests and Visitors Mr. Bob Meyer attended as a visitor
III. Approval of minutes from regular meeting on May 18,2009 Clifford Linsey made
the motion that the minutes be approved. Jean Roberts seconded the motion. All
were in favor and the motion passed unanimously.
IV. Presentation, possible action and discussion on Brazos Valley Museum of
Natural History with Debra Calman,Director Dr. Caiman became the director in
April, 2008. She explained the recent renovations that have taken place and gave an
update on current programs and upcoming exhibits. She reported that the museum is
becoming more dedicated to traveling exhibits. The new website is has been
redesigned and is current. She encouraged the committee to view it at
www.brazosvalleymuseum.org. The staff is looking to the future and would like to
see a Natural History Museum located next to the Bush museum with an IMAX
theater. Next year the museum will be celebrating 50 years in the Brazos Valley.
V. Report, possible action and discussion on Parks and Recreation Advisory Board
meeting held June 9, 2009 Ron Silvia attended the June 9, 2009 meeting. The
Board appointed E.E. Burns, Joanna Yeager, Colleen Risinger and Jon Denton to the
Senior Advisory Committee for three year terms beginning in July, 2009.
VI. Consideration,possible action and discussion concerning appointment of a
representative from the Senior Advisory Committee to attend City Council
meetings when agenda items include items of interest to the committee. Clifford
Linsey made the motion that Marci Rodgers, Senior Services Coordinator, notify the
members of the Senior Advisory Committee of city council meeting dates and subject
and that those who could attend would do so. Jean Roberts seconded the motion. All
were in favor and the motion passed unanimously.
VII. Presentation, possible action and discussion on Senior Services Coordinator
report regarding upcoming programs and events. (report attached)
VIII. Recognition awards for Senior Advisory Committee members, E.E. Burns,
Joanna Yeager, Colleen Risinger and Yvonne Stevens Colleen Risinger and
Joanna Yeager received a recognition plaque in appreciation of their three year term
as a member of the Senior Advisory Committee. E.E. Burns and Yvonne Stevens
were not in attendance.
IX. Presentation,possible action and discussion on future agenda items: A
Committee member may inquire about a subject for which notice has not been
given. A statement of specific factual information or the recitation of existing
policy may be given. Any deliberation shall be limited to a proposal to place the
subject on an agenda for a subsequent meeting.

make-up Household Hazardous Waste Collection on Saturday, July 11t , 7:OOam-2:OOpm
July 15 -The Spirit of Aggieland Hospitality Training offered by B/CS Convention and Visitors
Bureau(consists of 12 monthly sessions ending in May 2010 held at George Bush Presidential
Library and Museum and site tours departing from the B/CS Convention and Visitors Bureau)
Every Thursday-Veterans Park at 7:30 p.m. Meet at the entrance to the American Mile next to the
American Pavilion for a free run/walk sponsored by the Mayor's Council on Physical Fitness. Join other
runners,joggers,walkers in following one or two mile loops through Veterans Park. Not a race,no
prizes,just an opportunity to get out,exercise,and possibly meet new people who move at your pace.

BRYAN + COLLEGE STATION PUBLIC LIBRARY SYSTEM ADVISORY BOARD
May 19, 2009
On the 19th day of May 2009,the Bryan + College Station Public Library System
Advisory Board of the cities of Bryan and College Station,Texas, met in a regular
meeting at the Carnegie History Center, 111 S. Main St., Bryan,Texas.
1. Helen Kunz called the meeting to order at 5:15 p.m. and the following were

3. Other attendees were Clara Mounce, Community Librarian; Kathleen Dill, LJR
Library, College Station, and David Gerling of College Station.
4. The minutes of the meeting for March 10, 2009,were approved as read.
5. The monthly stats for March and April 2009 were discussed. Circulation remains
consistent for this time of year. One question raised and answered was the time
allotment on the computers in the libraries. The time for one person is 14 1/2
hours.
6. A. In old business, David Gerling reported that he would be speaking with Chuck
Gilman in November on the CIP, and in January, more information will be available.
B. Mrs. Mounce and Kathleen Dill noted the tweaking/refinement of the new
POLARIS ILS.The new system is user friendly. One can now put a book on hold.
7. In new business, Mrs. Mounce announced her retirement.
8. Librarian's Report: Mrs. Mounce suggested we check out the new POLARIS by
looking at the summaries and covers of books via the catalog. One thing to
remember is to put in the whole library card number.Also, Mrs. Mounce invited
members to visit the Friends of the Library booth in the Kids Zone at the June 19
Texas Reds Festival.
9. The next meeting will be held on July 21, 2009, at the Larry Ringer Library.

Kudos to Tennis Instructors
"We are writing to compliment you on 4 fabulous
tennis instructors! Our 5 and 8 year old children
Ribbon Cuffing Ceremony took tennis lessons in June on Tuesday and

Starlight Music Season Ends
"The June 30th triple-shot concert marked the
end of the 2009 Starlight Music Series. We
hosted bands from all over Texas and as far away
as Canada, New York, California, New Orleans
and Oklahoma. Over 30,000 attendees enjoyed
the entertainment at 5 concerts thanks to our

Marci, I think the thanks should go to you and the rest of the Parks & Recreation staff. I made a note in my
report of how friendly and cooperative everyone was and especially the fact that other supervisory people like
Lance and Tony made themselves available. Please convey my appreciation and thanks to all of them. If you will
send a mailing address for them I will drop each a personal note of thanks. Also tell Tony that I have asked John
Prochaska at the School of Rural Public Health if I can share his information with Tony. I don't think John will
have a problem with that and if not, I will send Tony the Senior Center service area map and the census data.

Dear Pete:
On behalf of the Bluebonnet Street Rod Club 1 want to thank you for your efforts in
support of the 18th Rod Run at Central Park. The event was extremely successful. We
had 236 registered cars at the event, a new record. Many of the participants told us
how much they enjoyed the event.
The City of College Station's support along withyour efforts helped insure that this
was an outstanding success. Through the years the event has raised funds for various
charities including Still Creek Ranch and Hospice of the Brazos Valley _
The Bluebonnet Street rod club has recently become incorporated through the State of
Texas as a non profit to aid in that effort. There are currently 66 local business that are
associate members of the club. A total 37 business contributed merchandise and
services toward the success of the event.
Total funds generated for charities will be published as soon as expenses are paid.
