Regular Meeting

Members Absent: All Kling, Florace Kling, \faille '.iroussard and Helen Siegel
Staff Present: Marci Rothers
Welcome: Bill Lay called the meeting to order at 10:10am
II. Approval of the ktril 30, 2001 minutes A i ie Lee Finch made the motion that
the minutes from the April meetin. be approved. Wendell Home seconded the
motion. The motion passed.
III. Action on City Councils recommendations from Senior Facility Presentation:
The committee would like copies of the written report submitted to the city from
the Eisenhower Leadershi", ;"rogram. The corn; ' t-tee was very complimentary
of the presentation by the students. The council asked that sources of funding in
the way of grants be looked into. The committee discussed the possibility of
corn minces to look into what ftinding sources are available for a senior
facility. The corn mittee agreed to continue to gather inftrmation and tour
facilities so that a formal recommendation could be made to the council as to the
type facility the senior's would like to have. The committee said they would
like to tour the facility in Round Rock during the week of June 17-22. Marci
will make the affangements and notify the committee.
Marci Rodgers will work with the city staff to develop a time line for this
project.
IV. Senior Advisory Board Application review: Three applications have been
received for five opening positions on the Senior Advisory Cox-mittee.
Members were asked to contact Marci with names of citizens who would be
interested in serving a three-year term. Marci explained that the co:nmittee
needed to make a recommendation to the Parks and Recreation toard at their
June meeting for the new positions to be filled in July. Carol Parzen made the
motion that till Lay, Chairman and Marci Rodgers review the applications an*
make the recommendations to the Parks and Recreati*n Boar*. Wendell
seconded the motion. The motion passed.
V Senior Friendly Award Na -imation: The committee reviewed the application
submitted by Carol 'arzen to award the new Kroger Store with the Senior
Friendly Business Award. The Kroger Store was nominated because the store
met all the guidelines and is an example of an atmosphere seniors desire. The
store was noted fir having waiting areas, unhurried atmosphere, providing easy
access with electric carts and friendly service. Bill Lancaster made the motion
that Kroger on Rock Prairie Road Ic award the "Senior Friensly Business
Aware. Joanna Yeager seconded the motion. The moti*n passed.
