Call to order and Roll Call: The meeting was called to order with a quorum present at 7:10PM. 2. Possible action concerning requests for absences of members: Fred Medina sent in a request for absence. Billy Hart made a motion to approve the absence request submitted, and Shawn Reynolds seconded the motion. The vote was called. All were in favor,and the motion passed unanimously. 3. Hear visitors: Hearing none,this item was closed. 4. Consideration, possible approval, and discussion of minutes from the meetino of April 10, 2012: Shawn Reynolds made a motion to approve the minutes as submitted,and Billy Hart seconded the motion. The vote was called. Ali were in favor,and the motion passed unanimously. 5. Presentation, possible action, and discussion concerning the Lick Creek Greenways Trail Project: Venessa Garza reported on the Lick Creek Greenways Trail Project. Update on Park Maintenance Standards Quarterly Report for FY12: Amy Atkins reported on the Park Maintenance Standards Quarterly Report. This was an informational item only,and no action was required. 7. _Update on the Mayor's Council on Wellness: Peter Lamont reported that an update was not available at this time, as he is awaiting feedback from recent events. This was an informational item only,and no action was required. 8. Update on the College Station Senior Games: Jon Denton,Chair,reported on this item. He reported that he hoped to have another sub-committee meeting soon,so that he could report back. This was an informational item only,and no action was required. 9. Presentation, possible action,and discussion concerning the future goals for park development: David Schmitz, Director, reported on this item. Discussion followed. O Previous years standards aren't a good comparison to current,as the standards were updated in October 2011 and the"lens"in which we are examining parks has changed to a higher standard. w The goal is to continue to improve within the new standards each quarter and to strive to reach the 90%of standards met in alI districts moving forward. Call to order The meeting was called to order at 10:00 am by Joanna Yeager, Chairman IL Hear visitors No visitors III. Approval of minutes from regular meeting on March 26,2012 Ann Hays made the motion to approve the minutes. Frank Duchmasclo seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. IV. Discussion, consideration and possible action concerning program sub- committee report regarding upcoming programs and events The sub-committee met on April l0' The committee reviewed the May calendar. Pat VanderBoom, Robert Meyer and Joanna Yeager agreed to serve on the program sub-committee and attend regular monthly meetings. The committee will be working with the Historic Preservation Committee to determine the topics and speakers for the 2013 Lunch/Lecture series. V. Report,possible action,and discussion concerning update presented to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board on Senior Programs Frank Duchmasclo reported that he and Joanna Yeager attended the April 10th meeting of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board and gave an update on attendance figures for senior programs. Ms.Yeager presented an overview to the board on the accomplishments of the Senior Advisory Committee for the benefit of the new members. Mr. Duchmasclo discussed the importance of keeping the goal of a senior center before the board and city council. VI. Update and discussion regarding Senior Advisory Committee Goals The committee discussed the goal to establish and permanent Senior Center in College Station. The description used for the community center on the 2008 bond election will be presented at the next meeting. VII. Four members from Bryan shall be appointed by the Bryan and four members from College Station shall be appointed by the College Station City Council. All terms will be two-year terms. COMMUNITY LIBRARIAN The Library System Director shall be an ex-officio member of the Board. The Library System Director,or the Director's designee,shall attend all Board meetings. DUTIES The Advisory Board shall perform the following duties:encourage the development of the library system;recommend to the city councils policies and programs for the advancement of the libraries;cooperate with all other public and private groups in advancing the best interests of the library system;render to the city councils all recommendations it considers advisable regarding the library system. OFFICERS Officers of the Board shall be chosen at the first meeting of the year and shall be: president and vice-president.Officers shall serve for one year. The president shall preside at all meetings,appoint special committees as needed and authorize calls for any special meetings. The vice-president assumes the duties of president in the absence of the president. COMMITTEES Special committees may be appointed by the president. Such committees are to serve until the completion of the work for which they were appointed. All committees are expected to make a progress report at each Board meeting. MEETINGS The Board shall meet every other month beginning with January at a time and place to be selected.The Library System Director shall provide a secretary to keep a permanent record of the meetings.
