I have Just received an estimate for the cost of trashp for next- ickuyear from our p Physical Plant and it is being greatly increased. My questions is, could thep ark become a part of the College Station garbage collection system, thereby saving us about $800.00, which could then be pumped back into the maintenance and improvement of the.park? Since trash pick-up serves the adjacent neighborhoods your trucks are already in the area and the park could be routinely served. We have student workers who pick up trash in the park, collect the trash from small containers and put it in the larger dumpsters. We would be happyto re-arrange the dumpster locations or use your dumpsters to facilitate the collection process. If this is a possibility, I would appreciate the opportunity to discuss this assistance with you. If this letter needs to be redirected, I would appreciate it if you would forward to the appropriate department. I am leaving today for vacation and will return to the office June 19. I would like to discuss this solution to our problem if there is a chance of assistance from the city. Eitk Ilk Carolyn Adair Director of Student Activities CA:dm c: Tim Sweeney, Assoc. Post Office Box 9960 1101 Texas Avenue College Station,Texas 77842-9960 (409)7643500 May 23, 1997 L Ms. Carolyn Adair Director of Student Activities Texas A&M University Suite 125 John J.Koldus Building College Station,Texas 77843-1236 Dear Carolyn: Thank you for Idler concerning Hensel Park. The City has provided funds for recreation equipment and picnic units over the past several years as cooperative venture with the University. The City also provides routine inspection and maintenance of the facilities that it has installed. This was done to enhance neighborhood park facilities for College Station residents who live in the area north of University Drive and west of Texas Avenue. The majority of these residents are students or families of students and the City deemed that improvements to Hensel Park were the most effective method to provide neighborhood park facilities in this area. Garbage service for other College Station City park facilities is provided by the Public Works Department. These services are charged at the normal commercial rates for collections. Any garbage service provided to Hensel Park by the City would also be assessed a fee based upon the volume and frequency of collection. The City does not want to assume this cost. Additional improvements to Hensel Park may be considered by the City in the future if funding . becomes available. Please feel free to contact me if additional information is required. I will be happy to discuss this with you after you return from vacation.
