I anticipate that the entire project will not be completed by the March 2nd date, however, the ceremony will take place as scheduled at 21: 00 P. M. on that date. 3. ARTIST - IN RESIDENCE - Albert Pedulla has constructed a clay model of the sculpture that he is doing for Richard Carter Park. The model is of a man with an up-raised ax driving a stake in the ground. The figure is very dramatic with a sense of power and symbolizes the beginning of College Station. (i . e. : Richard Carter staking his property) . The actual sculpture will be a life-sized figure cast in bronze. Albert is working with Pete Vanacek concerning the location and erection details for the statue. 4. REPUBLIC OF TEXAS SUPER TRIATHLON - We have received over 400 requests for entry forms for this major sesquicentennial event | (April 25, 26, 27, 1986) . Requests have come from throughout | Texas and several countries including Ireland, Australia, Germany, and Czechoslovakia. The event has been sanctioned by the Association of International Marathons and we anticipate it being designated as the national championship for staged triathlons by the United States Triathlon Federation (TRIFED) . Many details are yet to be worked out, however, progress is being made. Charlie Szabuniewicz has received several committments from sponsors to supply items such as drinking water (OZARKA) , snacks (MORTON) , gatorade (EXCEED) , and airline tickets (AMERICAN AIRLINES) . Several organizations have also committed to provide volunteer workers during the event and United Bank of College Station will provide $1 , 200. 00 cash. The City of Austin is assisting in securing the seim site (LAKE LONG) and with the parade permits for the start of the bike race. 5. CHRISTMAS IN THE PARK Once again, this event was a tremendous success. I have enclosed a letter received by this office that is representative of the public appreciation of this event. The continued support of Jack Lester and the participants by many volunteers and City employees made the event ever more success+uI than last year. 6. LINCOLN CENTER - Lincoln Center is now open operating and is very popular with the users. Participation in the adult and youth Basketball leagues (a recreation program un-related to our other athletic leagues) includes six adult and four youth teams. 203 memberships have been sold to date and several functions have been scheduled at the facility (Christmas Bash, Martin Luther King Celebration, and private parties) . No major problems have occurred and the facility is holding up well . 7. HOUSEKEEPING - The Maintenance crew have almost finished painting the interior of our Central office. This face lift was badly needed and greatly appreciated. Thanks go to Leslie Boykin, LeAnn Drozd, Rhoda Savage, Jana Harter, Jennifer Reeves, and others. Two beavers have been trapped in the Arboretum at Bee Creek Park. This is a recurring problem (5 were trapped last year) that poses 2
