HomeMy WebLinkAbout08/29/2016 - Regular Minutes - Senior Advisory Committee College Station Senior Advisory Committee Regular Meeting August 29, 2016 Southwood Community Center 1520 Rock Prairie Rd. 10:00 a.m. Minutes Members Present: Jean Adams, Bryana Childers, Jerry Crockett, Russell Kohel, Jeanne Machrowicz, Arelene Petroski, Christine Williams, Janet Wood and Joanna Yeager Members Absent: Carol Blaschke, Margaret Carmichael, June Morris, Mickey Stokes, Norma Teetes and Darla VanFickell Visitors: John Nichols, Staff Present: Marci Rodgers I.Call to order: The meeting was called to order at 10:03 a.m. by Jerry Crockett, Chairman II.Hear Visitors: John Nichols, City Council Place 4 – Mayor Pro Tem. Jerry Crockett introduced Mr. Nichols and thanked him for attending the Meyer Plaque Unveiling Reception. Mr. Nichols thanked the committee for the work they are doing. III.Approval of minutes from meeting held on July 25, 2016: Jean Adams made the motion to approve the minutes. Jeanne Machrowicz seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. IV.Appointment of website sub-committee: The purpose of the sub-committee is to provide feedback to city staff on information that could be added to the senior page of the current city website and provide suggestions for a more user friendly senior page on the new website. Chairman, Jerry Crockett asked for volunteers from those interested in serving. Russel Kohel will serve as Chair. Jeanne Machrowicz, Christine Williams and Jerry Crockett volunteered to serve. V.Presentation of video from Meyer plaque unveiling reception. Marci Rodgers played a video created by the Public Communications Department of the Meyer Plaque unveiling reception. VI.Presentation, possible action and discussion on Senior Services Coordinator Report regarding current and upcoming programs and events (Report attached) Marci Rodgers showed a sample of the welcome packets prepared by the Public Communications Department for committee members to distribute to new senior City of College Station Page 2 of 2 adults moving into our community. The fall guide and calendar will be added to each packet.  Fall Guide available online - registration for classes begins September 6th  September 14: “Strictly Business” with Mark Scamardo, The Farm Patch  September 22: Fall Dance VII.Presentation, discussion and possible action on future agenda items: A Committee member may inquire about a subject for which notice has not been given. A statement of specific factual information or the recitation of existing policy may be given. Any deliberation shall be limited to a proposal to place the subject on an agenda for a subsequent meeting.  Update from David Schmitz on Senior and Community Center project and Bob Meyer Restricted Gift Fund  September26, 2016 Next meeting: VIII.Adjourn: The meeting adjourned at 10:03 a.m.
