IV.Update from Chris Dyer, Executive Director, on Arts Council of Brazos Valley: Mr.
Dyer explained that the Arts Council has been serving the Brazos Valley community
for 40 years as a non-profit agency. The mission of the Arts Council is to make the
arts accessible to all residents and visitors of the Brazos Valley through funding,
promotion, advocacy, professional development and partnership building programs.
The facility is home to the Brazos Valley Art League and the Brazos Valley Veteran’s
Memorial Office. The Arts Council has outgrown the current space and they are in
the process of fundraising for a new center that would be larger and located in a
higher traffic section of the community. The ideal location would be within walking
distance of hotels, restaurants and major tourist attractions. The Arts Council will
remain in the current facility until March 2018 and possibly longer.

V.Update on Senior and Community Center with Kelly Kelbly: Kelly Kelbly gave the
committee a report on the status of the renovation and expansion project of the Arts
Center for a Senior and Community Center. Staff recently met with the City
Manager’s office to discuss presenting the project to City Council for approval and
funding. The decision was made that the project should be tabled temporarily due to
the upcoming election and major projects that take priority such as streets and an
additional fire station. The staff will meet again with the City Manager’s office and
Capital Projects to determine a dollar amount that is affordable and give the architect
direction for a new design to accommodate the needs of the senior population.
VI.Update from website sub-committee, Russell Kohel: Russell Kohel, Christine
Williams, Jeanne Machrowicz and Jerry Crocket have met to discuss the senior
webpage. The recommendations of the sub-committee to the Senior Advisory
Committee is a webpage that is more concise and includes a links format. They
would like to meet with Public Communications staff to give their input for the senior
webpage when the time comes and the city renews its webpage. The suggestions are:
A photo each month of seniors or a senior activity
A one-page site is desirable and more condensed
Less text and more links to simplify the page. Prefer links format.
