MEMBERS PRESENT
: Chairperson Hillary Jessup; Committee Members: Colleen
Risinger, Dipankar Sen, Tom Taylor, and Ernie Wright.

: Bill Lancaster and Marguerite Anthony

AGENDA ITEM NO. 1: Call to Order.
Chairperson Hillary Jessup called the meeting to order at 5:42p.m.
AGENDA ITEM NO. 2Consideration, discussion and possible action on absence
:
requests.
Colleen Risinger made a motion and Neal Nutall seconded motion to accept the absence request
of Bill Lancaster and Marguerite Anthony. Motion passed unanimously.
AGENDA ITEM NO. 3: Initial Hear Visitors.
Information Services Director Olivia Burnside introduced herself and informed the committee
that Neighborhood Services is now under the Information Services Department.
AGENDA ITEM NO. 4
: Report, possible action, and discussion regarding selecting a HPC
member to serve on the Comprehensive Plan Advisory Committee.
Staff Jennifer Prochazka reported the details of the formation of the Comprehensive Plan
Advisory Committee made up of 15 voting members plus other governmental agencies. The
time commitment is one night meeting per month for approximately 18 months starting early to
late July.
Colleen Risinger made the motion to appoint Hillary Jessup to serve as the HPC representative
for the Comprehensive Plan Advisory Committee. The motion was seconded by Sen Dipankar.
The motion passed unanimously.
AGENDA ITEM NO. 5:
Possible action and discussion to approve meeting minutes of
regular meeting of May 1, 2006.
Tom Taylor made the motion to accept the May 1, 2006 meeting and the motion was seconded by
Ernie Wright. Motion passed unanimously.
ACTION ITEM NO. 6:
Report, possible action, and discussion regarding City Council’s
request for “action minutes.”
Ernie Wright made the motion to follow City Council’s recommendation to maintain action
minutes and the motion was seconded by Tom Taylor. Motion passed unanimously.
ACTION ITEM NO. 7:
Report, possible action, and discussion regarding encouraging
community members to apply for the Historic Preservation Committee
ACTOION ITEM NO. 8:
Report, possible action, and discussion regarding the committee
practices and procedures.
Tom Taylor reported on the draft of the committee practices and procedures. Corrections were
suggested.
Colleen made motion to submit the draft with correction to staff for review. The motion was
seconded by Ernie Wright. Motion passed unanimously.
Project Updates:
ACTION ITEM NO. 9:
Report, possible action, and discussion regarding the Veterans Park
American Mile project.
Tom Taylor gave a progress report on the American Mile project.
ACTION ITEM NO. 10:
Report, possible action, and discussion regarding Heritage
th
Preservation Month event Heritage in the Parks on May 20.
Ernie Wright gave a report on the Heritage Preservation Month “Heritage in the Parks” event.
ACTION ITEM NO. 11:
Report, possible action, and discussion regarding Project HOLD.
Tom Taylor made the motion to accept Anne Boykin’s Project HOLD report. Motion seconded
by Ernie Wright. Motion passed unanimously.
ACTION ITEM NO. 12
Report, possible action, and discussion regarding the Exploring
History Lunch Lecture Series.
Colleen Risinger reported on the presentation of Casey Motl on “Suffragette Movement in
Brazos County.” Katie Elrod reported that Motl said that he may be able to speak at a lunch
lecture in January 2007.
Tom Taylor made motion to accept the following programs for the Exploring History Lunch
Lecture: June: Pastor Sam Hill – Preacher Tales of the Brazos Bottoms; July: Pat Barrett –Fire
Training; August: Sara Alperen – History of Women at A&M; and September: David Woodcock
- TAMU Historic Buildings. The motion was seconded by Neal Nutall. The motion passed
unanimously.
AGENDA ITEM NO. 13:
Calendar of pertinent past and upcoming community events
pertaining to historical interests.

May 17 Exploring History Lunch Lecture: Oil and Mineral
May 20 Heritage in the Parks
Upcoming
June 21 Exploring History Lunch Lecture
June 22 City Council Workshop at 3:00 p.m. regarding historic districts.
AGENDA ITEM NO. 14:
Final Hear Visitors – as per direction in agenda item number 3.
AGENDA ITEM NO. 15:
Possible action and discussion on future agenda items – A Historic
Preservation Member may inquire about a subject for which notice has not be given. A
statement of specific factual information or the recitation of existing policy may be given. Any
deliberation shall be limited to a proposal to place the subject on an agenda for a subsequent
meeting.
Future agenda items: HPC meeting starting time.
