HomeMy WebLinkAbout04/03/2006 - Regular Minutes - Historic Preservation Committee MINUTES Historic Preservation Committee Monday, April 3, 2006 3:00 p.m. 2"d Floor Conference Room City of College Station, City Hall, 1101 Texas Avenue College Station, Texas 77842 MEMBERS PRESENT: Chairperson Hillary Jessup; Committee Members: Marguerite Anthony, Bill Lancaster, Neal Nutall, Colleen Risinger, Dave Ruesink, Dipankar Sen, Tom Taylor and Ernie Wright. MEMBERS ABSENT: No members absent. STAFF PRESENT: Staff Coordinator Katie Elrod, Heritage Coordinator Anne Boykin, Neighborhood Services Intern Arsenio Rodrigues. VISITORS PRESENT: No visitors present. AGENDA ITEM NO. 1: Call to Order. Chairperson Hillary Jessup called the meeting to order at 3:05p.m. AGENDA ITEM NO. 2: Consideration, discussion and possible action on absence requests. Marguerite Anthony will be on vacation and will not attend the May 1St HPC meeting. AGENDA ITEM NO. 3: Initial Hear Visitors. No visitors were present. AGENDA ITEM NO. 4: Consideration, discussion and possible action to approve meeting minutes of regular meeting of March 6,2006. A motion was made by Tom Taylor to approve the minutes. Motion seconded by Bill Lancaster. Motion passed. (9-0). AGENDA ITEM NO. 5: Report, discussion, and possible action regarding the committee practices and procedures. Tom Taylor reported that Marguerite Anthony and Anne Boykin have made suggestions for the by-laws. They will be finalized at the May regular meeting. Katie Elrod reminded us of the Open Meetings Training scheduled for April 7, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Planning & Development Services conference room. Project Updates: AGENDA ITEM NO. 6: Report, possible action, and discussion regarding the Veterans Park American Mile project. Tom Taylor reported that April 19th is the deadline for all time line submissions to the project. The committee is scheduled to complete the task by June. Arsenio Rodrigues reported that the trip to Frisco yielded good information for our own project. A full report with photographs will be presented at the next American Mile meeting. AGENDA ITEM NO. 7: Report, possible action, and discussion regarding Heritage Preservation Month in May. Marguerite Anthony and Anne Boykin continue to work on the Heritage Hunt event for families and children to be held in the parks on May 20th. An Open House at Project HOLD will also be held that day. Ernie Wright is securing volunteers for the day. It was suggested that flyers be sent to the children at the elementary schools and notification by email will be sent to the neighborhoods. AGENDA ITEM NO. 8: Report, possible action, and discussion regarding Project HOLD. Anne Boykin included the most recent memorandum of Project HOLD activities in the HPC packet. A discussion concerning historic markers was held. The marker application file regarding marker#57 is missing. AGENDA ITEM NO. 9: Report, discussion, and possible action regarding Exploring History Lunch Lecture Series. Tom Taylor reported on the tentative schedule for the lunch lecture series. The series will be at 11:30am at the College Station Conference Center on the third Wednesdays of each month except December. Exhibit Opening & Reception, 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Cushing Memorial Library& Archives at TAMU May 20th Heritage Month Event June 8th City Council follow-up on historic districts AGENDA ITEM NO. 11: Final Hear Visitors. No visitors present. AGENDA ITEM NO. 12: Discussion and possible action on future agenda items. AGENDA ITEM NO. 13: Adjourn. A motion to adjourn was made by Tom Taylor and seconded by Bill Lancaster.
