MEMBERS PRESENT: David K. Chester, J.P. Grom, Carl Shafer, Bill Lancaster, Robert McGee, Randal Allison and Sherlei Dannhaeuser MEMBERS ABSENT: Chairman Sanford and Thomas Taylor. STAFF PRESENT: Staff Assistant Stacey Ann Smith, Staff Planner Kate Elrod, Senior Planner Lee Battle, &Planning Intern Lauren Harrell. AGENDA ITEM NO. 1: Call to Order. Bill Lancaster called the meeting to order at 5:38 PM. AGENDA ITEM NO. 2: Consideration,discussion and possible action on absence requests. Thomas Taylor submitted a request. Ms. Dannhaeuser made the motion to approve the absence. Mr. Grom seconded the motion, which passed(7-0). Chairman. Sanford did not submit an absence request, and the Committee did not vote on her absence. -- AGENDA ITEM NO. 3: Hear Visitors No visitors spoke. AGENDA ITEM NO.4: Consideration,discussion and possible action to approve meeting minutes from October 14, 2003. David Chester made the motion to approve the minutes. Robert McGee seconded the motion,which passed(7-0). AGENDA ITEM NO.5: Discussion and possible action regarding canceling the December meeting. David Chester made a motion to approve. Carl Shafer seconded the motion,which passed(7-0). AGENDA ITEM NO 6: Consideration, discussion and possible action regarding the award of a Historic Home Marker for Hugh and Katherine Lindsay for their property at 400 Walton Drive. Kate Elrod went over the content of the application. Katherine Lindsay answered questions. Zherlei Dannhaeuser made the motion to approve. Carl Shafer seconded the motion,which passed(7- 0). HPC Minutes July 8,2003 Page 1 of 3 AGENDA ITEM NO. 7: Explanation of historic districts and update on grassroots initiatives of the Eastgate and Oakwood Neighborhoods to create historic districts. Kate Elrod said that College Hills Homeowner's Association in Eastgate is continuing with the letter and packet that they will be sending out to the residents on Walton Drive to gain support for creating a historic district. Carl Shafer met with the residents of Oakwood Neighborhood Association in Southside. He said they were interested in getting some more information. AGENDA ITEM NO. 8: Committee and staff report of pertinent past and upcoming community events pertaining to historical interests. The Exploring College Station History Series will have a Lunch Lecture on November 19th at 11:30am, Calvin Boykin will be the speaker. The Evening History Share Session will be November 18th at 7pm. Joe Bruce will be the guest. The City of College Station 65th Birthday Celebration went well. City Council will recognize the work done by David Woodcock's architecture class on December 4th The Committee decided that the memory sharing seminars and the lectures should continue in the spring. AGENDA ITEM NO. 9: Consideration,discussion and possible action regarding the award of a Historic Home Marker for Hugh and Kathryn Lindsay for their property at 400 Walton Drive. This was already covered. AGENDA ITEM NO. 10: Discussion on Fall 2003 Planning Commission Journal articles on Historic Preservation. Carl Shafer started off the discussion about the article. The Committee discussed the article as a group. AGENDA ITEM NO. 11: Report,consideration, and possible action regarding the Historic Marker Initiative and the identification of eligible buildings and subjects. J.P. Groin had no update. AGENDA ITEM NO. 12: Report,consideration, and possible action regarding the Project HOLD: Historic Online Library Database. There is nothing new on this item. Volunteers are needed. AGENDA ITEM NO. 13: Consideration, discussion and possible action in the selection of future agenda items. Sherlei Dannhaeuser said that it would be good to get questions from City Council regarding historic districts. AGENDA ITEM NO. 14: Adjourn. The meeting was adjourned at 7:03P.M.
