Minutes Historic Preservation Committee Administrative Conference Room 1101 Texas Avenue Wednesday, April 4, 2001 5:15 p.m. MEMBERS PRESENT: Shawn Carlson, Chair; Thomas Taylor; Monte Trenckmann, Marsha Sanford & Margaret Griffith. MEMBERS ABSENT: Bill Lancaster, Myron Gantt, Deborah Jasek & Robert McGee & Alternate Member Graham Sheffy. STAFF PRESENT: Lee Battle, Molly Hitchcock, Jane Kee, and Jennifer Flannery. VISITORS PRESENT: Mike Luther, Benito Florez-Meath. 1. Call to Order: Shawn Carlson called the meeting to order. 2. Consideration &Approval of Member Requests for Absences: Shawn told the Committee that the only member that made notification of an absence from the meeting was Robert McGee. The Committee voted 5-0 to approve his absence. Other members absent were Bill Lancaster, Myron Gantt, Deborah Jasek & Robert McGee. The Board did not vote on the approval of these absences. 3. Hear Visitors: No visitors spoke. 4. Approval of February 14 2001 Meeting Minutes. Shawn made two minor corrections to the minutes. Mr. Taylor made the motion to approve the minutes as corrected. Ms. Sanford seconded the motion, which passed (5-0). 5. Approval of the February 28, 2001 meeting minutes. Shawn made one minor correction. Mr. Taylor moved to approve the minutes as corrected. Ms. Sanford seconded the motion, which passed (5-0) Historic Preservation Committee Minutes,April 4,2001 Page 2 6. Set goals for the Committee. Lee told the Committee that they needed to establish a mission statement first before they could begin to identify and set goals. The following is the proposed mission statement, duties and responsibilities that was development at the meeting. Purpose Assist in preserving the history of College Station. Duties and Responsibilities The duties of this committee shall be to: - Collect and preserve information and materials related to the history of College Station, Aid in the identification and preservation of historic resources, • Educate citizens and promote the public's awareness of College Station's history and historic resources, - Study concerns related to historic preservation and make recommendations where applicable, • Give advise to the City Council on matters related to historic preservation, and Carry out other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the City Council. Marsha made the motion to table this item until the remainder of the Committee had a chance to give their input. Margaret seconded the motion, which passed (5-0). 7.
