Call meeting to order. 2. Executive Session will be held in the Administrative Conference Room. Consultation with Attorney {Gov't Code Section 551.071 }; possible action. The City Council may seek advice from its attorney regarding a pending or contemplated litigation subject or settlement offer or atton1ey-client privileged information. Litigation is an ongoing process and questions may arise as to a litigation tactic or settlement offer, which needs to be discussed with the City Council. Upon occasion the City Council may need information from its attorney as to the status of a pending or contemplated litigation subject or settlement offer or attorney-client privileged information. November 25, 2013 City Council Workshop Item No. 4 Mayor Pro Tempore To: Kelly Templin, City Manager From: Sherry Mashburn, City Secretary Agenda Caption: Presentation, possible action, and discussion on the election of Mayor Pro Tempore. Summary: At the first meeting of each new City Council, one of the council members shall be elected Mayor Pro Tem and shall hold the office for one year. It is the responsibility of the Mayor Pro Tem to act as Mayor during the disability or absence of the Mayor. In this capacity, the Mayor Pro Tem has the rights conferred upon the Mayor. Attachments: • None 6 November 25, 2013 Workshop Agenda Item No. 5 Hotel Tax Revenue Strategic Use To: Kelly Templin, City Manager From: Jeff Kersten, Executive Director Business Services Agenda Caption: Presentation, possible action and discussion on the strategic use of City of College Station Hotel Tax funds. Recommendation(s): Staff recommends Council receive the presentation and provide direction on the use of the City’s Hotel Tax funds. Summary: The City of College Station collects over $4 million a year in Hotel Tax revenues. There are limits on the use of these funds. Expenditures of these funds must directly enhance and promote tourism and the convention and hotel industry, and must fit into one of a number of statutorily provided categories. Earlier this year the City Council requested a workshop item on the strategic uses of Hotel Tax funds, and a presentation on the allowable uses of the Hotel Tax funds. A representative from the Texas Lodging Association will be at the meeting to provide a presentation on the allowable uses of Hotel Tax funds, and staff will be providing some background and context for the discussion on strategic uses of the Hotel Tax funds. Budget & Financial Summary: In FY 14 the City is projected to collect $4,246,000 in Hotel Tax revenues. Legal Review: NA Attachments: 1. NA 7
